"Not riding" for a day or one leg

A parent, the rider or the transport office says a rider will not ride on a day, for one leg or both. The run's rider list changes at once, and the office, the people you name and the driver are told.
PLANSEvery plan

Why it matters

The driver waits five minutes for a child who is not coming, because the parent told the class teacher and it never reached the transport desk. A parent, the rider or the office marks a day or a leg as not riding, the run's list changes at once, and the driver is told. Everyone can see who cancelled and when.

The problem it solves

  • The driver waits five minutes at a stop for a child who is not coming.
  • A parent collects the child at 1 pm, and the evening bus still counts her as missed.
  • The parent told the class teacher, and the message never reached the transport desk.
  • Nobody can say who cancelled a ride, or when.

How it works

  1. The parent, the rider or the office picks the date, today or later.
  2. They choose why: Not Travelling, Parent Drops (no pickup), Parent Picks Up (no drop) or Other, and add a note if it helps.
  3. They choose the leg: Pickup and Drop, Pickup or Drop. Parent Drops and Parent Picks Up set the leg by themselves.
  4. On that day's planned runs the rider shows as Not Riding, with the reason, so the driver does not wait. A day not yet planned is applied when its run is made.
  5. The transport office, the people in Also Tell About Not Riding and the driver and helper are told at once. Nobody needs to approve it.
  6. If plans change, Rides as usual takes it back: the rider is expected again and the same people are told.

Everything it does

Saying not riding

  • Date: today or later; past days are refused
  • Reason: Not Travelling (the default), Parent Drops (no pickup), Parent Picks Up (no drop), Other
  • Leg: Pickup and Drop, Pickup or Drop; a leg the rider does not use is refused
  • A note, such as grandfather picks up
  • One day at a time; the same day and leg again updates the reason and note
  • Set By shows who recorded it: the office, the rider or a parent

What changes

  • Planned runs of that day: the rider becomes Not Riding with the reason as the note
  • Not counted as expected, so not marked Missed when the run ends
  • A run already running is not changed; phone the office as well
  • Taking it back makes the rider Expected again on the planned runs

Who may do it

  • The rider
  • Everyone listed under Told About This Rider: parents, guardians, others
  • The transport office, for any rider

Questions

Does the office have to approve it?

No. It applies at once and the office is told. The office sees who set each day under Set By.

Can a parent mark a whole week?

One day at a time. For a week away, send it for each day.

What if the bus has already left?

A run that is already running does not change. The driver is told, but may not read it in time, so phone the transport office as well.

Our parents call the office today. Does that still work?

Yes. The office records it on the rider's Not Riding tab, and the same people are told. On Starter that is the way, until your parents use the Rider app.

Is the school admin told?

Yes, if you name them in Also Tell About Not Riding on the Entity. Any back-office user can be named.
