The My transport web page

A web page for riders and parents, with no app to install. It shows today's rides with the planned and expected time at the stop and the rider's state. "Tell the school" says the rider is not riding. To watch the bus move, parents use the Rider app.
PLANSFrom Growth

Why it matters

Not every parent will install an app. A web page from a link shows today's rides, the planned and expected time at the stop and whether the child is on board, and "Tell the school" says the child is not riding. Every family is covered from the first day; those who want to watch the bus move use the Rider app.

The problem it solves

  • Some parents will not install another app, but still want to know when the bus comes.
  • "My child is not coming today" arrives by phone call to the office and never reaches the driver.
  • Parents who said "not riding" by mistake have no way to take it back.
  • Times are shown in the wrong time zone for parents whose phone is set otherwise.

How it works

  1. The parent signs in on your organisation's web address and clicks the Transport card. Parents told about more than one rider pick the rider; with one rider the page opens directly.
  2. Today lists each ride with its route and state. The stop shows the planned time, the expected time while the bus is coming, and when it arrived.
  3. Below: the rider's state (Expected, Boarded, Dropped, Not Riding, Missed) with the reason, the vehicle's number plate and how many minutes late the run is. While a ride is running the page refreshes every minute.
  4. When the bus has sent a position, the page says it is on its way. To watch it live on a map, parents open the Rider app.
  5. Tell the School: choose the date, the reason, pickup or drop, add a note and press Send. The transport office, the school admin and the driver are told at once. Rides as usual takes a day back.

Everything it does

Today

  • Each ride: route, state (Planned, Running, Done, Cancelled), stop, planned time, ETA, reached time
  • The rider's state and the not-riding reason in brackets
  • Number plate, and "min late" when the run is behind
  • Times in the school's or organisation's time zone, whatever the parent's phone is set to
  • Refreshes every 60 seconds while a ride is running
  • Today only; past rides are in the Rider app

Tell the School

  • Date: today or later, today to start with
  • Reason: Not Travelling, Parent Drops (no pickup), Parent Picks Up (no drop), Other
  • For: pickup, drop or both, shown only for riders with both; Parent Drops and Parent Picks Up set it by themselves
  • Note, for example "grandfather picks up"
  • Told at once to the transport office, the staff in Also Tell About Not Riding and the driver and helper of the day's run. Nobody approves it
  • A day already over is refused

Not Riding list

  • Every day from today with a not-riding mark: date, reason, pickup or drop, note
  • Rides as usual withdraws it; the rider is expected again and the same people are told

Access

  • The rider and the people told about the rider see the page; anyone else is sent back to their own list
  • The Transport card on the portal home, and with SmartMy Campus on each child's page, showing today's ride in short
  • Works in any phone or computer browser

Who uses it

Parent or guardianChecks today's times and the child's state, and tells the school when the child will not ride.
Rider (college student, employee)Checks their own rides and marks days they will not ride.
Transport in-charge and school adminReceive each not-riding notice and its withdrawal at once.
Driver and helperAre told about not-riding for their run, so the bus does not wait.

Where you use it

  • Web: /my/transport on your organisation's address, from the Transport card of the portal home
  • With SmartMy Campus: the Transport card on each child's page of the parent portal
  • Not a map on this page: the bus is watched live in the SmartMy Transit Rider app
  • Not past rides: the page shows today only

What you control

Settings

  • Who is told about each rider, which decides who can open the page
  • Also Tell About Not Riding: extra staff, such as the school admin (none to start with)
  • The Transport card on the child's page can be hidden by the school

Notifications

  • Rider Not Riding: to the transport office, the also-tell staff and the run's driver and helper. As a phone notification, in the app and by email
  • Rider Riding Again: to the same people when a day is withdrawn
  • The parent sees the confirmation on the page and gets no separate message

Questions

Do parents need to install anything?

No. They sign in on your web address in a phone browser. The Rider app adds the live map and past rides.

Can parents see the bus on a map here?

No. The page shows the planned and expected time at the stop. While the bus is on its way it says so and points to the Rider app, where the bus moves on a map.

Who is told when a parent says "not riding"?

They are told at once: the transport office and the staff under Also Tell About Not Riding (such as the school admin). Also that day's driver and helper.

Can a parent change the stop?

No. Stops and routes are changed by the transport office.

Can parents see yesterday's rides?

Not on this page, which shows today. History is in the Rider app.

Then they hear when the rider boards, is dropped or misses the bus. Delays, a change of vehicle or driver and a cancelled run are told too, the moment they happen.WITH SMARTMY CAMPUSStudents as riders, with transport attendanceWith SmartMy Campus, a student becomes a rider from their own record, with class and admission number. In a school the parents are told, in a college the student and the parents. Transport attendance shows each student by class, day and leg, and parents see a Transport card on each child's page.
