Grace marks, supplementary exams, revaluation and hall tickets
Grace and moderation by a rule you set, and supplementary exams for those who failed. Revaluation, retotalling and script copies asked from the parent portal with their fees, and hall tickets held back for unpaid fees or short attendance.
PLANSFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- Grace marks are added by hand after a staff meeting, and nobody can later say who got them or why.
- Parents walk in to ask for a paper to be checked again, the request sits in a register, and the fee is collected separately.
- A supplementary exam is set up from scratch, and the internal marks are typed in a second time.
- Hall tickets go out to students who have not paid the exam fee or are well below the attendance minimum.
How it works
- On the exam's Rules tab you set the grace limits. One is the largest shortfall grace may cover in one paper. The other is at most how many failed papers (1 to start with).
- When every paper is submitted, the exam cell presses Apply Grace. A student who fails within those limits gets exactly the marks they were short, with the rule written as the reason.
- Before you schedule, the Fees tab sets the exam fee and whether a hall ticket waits for it. It also sets whether overdue fees hold the hall ticket back. Schedule raises the dues and the hall tickets follow.
- After results are published, a parent can ask on the portal for a revaluation, a retotalling or a copy of the answer script. They ask before the Revaluation Deadline. The fee for that kind is raised at once.
- The exam cell names the revaluator and presses Start Review; that step is the approval. The revised mark is entered and Complete works out the total, grade and rank again.
- For students who failed, Create Supplementary Exam makes a new exam with one paper per failed subject and only those students. Their internal and practical marks carried over.
Everything it does
Grace and moderation
- Grace: Max Marks per Paper and Grace: Max Papers (1 to start with), on the exam's Rules tab
- Grace is given only when a student fails no more papers than the limit and each shortfall is within the limit. It is exactly the shortfall
- Applied during mark entry, after every paper is submitted; running it again recalculates everyone
- The Grace column and a Grace Reason show on each mark; the exam's history says how many marks got grace
- Moderation: marks added to every student's external mark of one paper, never above the external maximum
- Only the exam cell sets moderation, and only before the paper is locked
- A student who failed a part of a subject examined in parts is not offered grace
Hall tickets and eligibility
- Attendance Eligibility: No Minimum (the default), Minimum per Subject or Minimum on Overall Attendance; Minimum Attendance 75 % to start with
- Not Eligible List; Condone per paper or overall, with a reason
- Hold Hall Ticket on one student's result
- Hall Ticket After Exam Fee: on to start with, so the hall ticket waits for the exam fee
- Hall Ticket and Fee Dues: Ignore fee dues (the default) or Withhold for overdue fees, with Grace Days (0)
- The accounts office can let one student through with a block override; dues a sponsor pays do not count
- A student debarred by a disciplinary action gets no hall ticket
- Print Hall Tickets for the whole exam, or one from the student's result; families download it on the portal
Exam fee and attendance-shortage fine
- Exam Fee per student, per paper, or both; due 7 days after scheduling to start with
- The result shows Exam Fee: No Fee, Unpaid or Paid
- Reset to Draft or Cancel takes the dues back; money already paid goes to the student's credit
- Attendance fine by slabs (from %, below %, fine), charged with Charge Attendance Fines; nobody is fined twice
- Paying Condones: on to start with, so a paid or waived fine lets the student sit the exam
- Below the lowest slab there is no fine and the student stays not eligible
Revaluation, retotalling and a copy
- Three kinds of request: Revaluation, Retotalling, Copy of the Answer Script
- Asked by the family on the portal's result page, or recorded by the exam cell under Examination > Exams > Results > Revaluations
- Only after results are published, for a paper with an external mark, before the Revaluation Deadline
- One open request per paper and student
- A fee per paper for each kind; the request waits until the fee is paid or waived
- Refund Fee if Marks Increase: the fee goes back to the student as credit when the mark goes up
- The request keeps the Original External, Revised External, Final External, Original Result and Final Result
- With blind valuation in use, the revaluator gets the script as a bundle of one and must not have marked it before
Supplementary exams
- Created from a published or closed exam, named Supplementary and the original exam's name
- One paper per subject somebody failed; only those students sit it
- Internal, practical and attendance marks carried over; only the external exam is written again
- Students not eligible for attendance are left out
- A subject examined in parts keeps the parts already passed as Carried Over; the exam cell can untick it
- Scheduled, marked and published like any exam, with its own exam fee per paper if you set one

- Parent portal: hall ticket download, the result page with the request form, and the copy of a scanned script

Questions
Can grace be given to one student by hand?
Grace is given by the rule on the exam, so every student is treated the same way. Moderation is for a whole paper. Each grace mark keeps the rule as its reason. How do parents ask for a revaluation?
On the result page of the parent portal, for each paper, before the revaluation deadline you set. They choose revaluation, retotalling or a copy of the answer script, and the fee for that kind is raised as a due.Does the fee come back if the marks go up?
Only if you tick Refund Fee if Marks Increase on the exam. The fee then goes to the student's credit when the revised mark is higher. Can we stop a student's hall ticket for unpaid fees?
Yes. Choose Withhold for overdue fees on the exam's Fees tab, with grace days if you like. The accounts office can let one student through with a block override.Do teachers re-enter internal marks for the supplementary exam?
No. Internal, practical and attendance marks are carried over from the first exam. Only the written external paper is taken again.Related features
