Exams, mark entry and grading
Set up unit tests, term exams and the annual exam with a paper per subject. Teachers enter marks on the web or in the Campus app. The system works out totals, grades, pass or fail and ranks by your rules.
PLANSFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- Teachers write marks in registers and the office types them into a spreadsheet again before the report cards.
- Pass rules, grade bands and the internal mark are worked out by hand, differently by each class teacher.
- A student short of attendance or with exam fees unpaid sits the exam because nobody checked in time.
- A practical and a theory paper on different days end up as two marks that someone has to add up.
How it works
- The exam cell sets up the exam types once (Unit Test, Term Exam and Annual Exam come ready). It also sets the grade scale, and the maximum and pass marks on each subject, once.
- For each exam, the exam cell picks the class and sections, adds a paper per subject with its date, time, room and evaluator. It sets the rules: attendance minimum, internal assessments, grace, exam fee.
- Schedule registers the students of the class. A student sits a paper when enrolled in the subject or when it is compulsory. Hall tickets can now be printed.
- Open Mark Entry. Each teacher sees only the papers they evaluate. The teacher marks each student Present, Absent, Malpractice or Exempted, and types the internal, practical and external marks, or a grade for a grade-only subject.
- The total, the grade, the grade point and Passed are worked out as marks are typed. The teacher saves, comes back later, and presses Submit Marks when the class is done.
- When every paper is submitted, the exam cell publishes the results. Ranks are given within each section, and families see the results and the mark sheet.
Everything it does
Exam set-up
- Exam types with a category (Unit / Class Test, Term Exam, Annual Exam, Internal Assessment, Supplementary) and a weightage for the annual result. Unit Test 10 %, Term Exam 30 % and Annual Exam 60 % come ready
- Grade scales with grade, from and to %, grade point, remark and a fail grade. "School 9-Point (CBSE style)" comes ready (A1 for 91 to 100 down to E below 33, the fail grade)
- Per subject: Marks or Grade Only; internal, practical and external maximum and pass marks; marks for attendance; total maximum and pass mark. A new paper copies them and can change them
- An exam per class and term, limited to some sections if you wish, with its papers, dates, rooms, evaluators and instructions for candidates
Mark entry
- Exam attendance per student and paper: Present, Absent, Malpractice or Exempted
- Internal, practical and external marks, each checked against its maximum; grade-only subjects take a grade from the exam's scale
- A teacher remark per student
- Paper states: Mark Entry Open, Submitted, Locked; only the exam cell reopens a submitted or locked paper
- A paper cannot be submitted while a student who was present has no mark
Grading and pass rules
- Total = internal + practical + external (after moderation and grace) + attendance marks
- A student passes a paper when present, every component reaches its pass mark. The total must also reach the paper's pass mark and the grade is not a fail grade. An exempted student passes
- Result per student: total, percentage, grade, and Pass, Fail, Not Eligible (Attendance), Absent or Withheld
- Rank within the class section, passed students first, then by percentage; equal scores share a rank (1, 2, 2, 4)
Internal mark from tests, homework and attendance
- The internal mark can come from earlier periodic tests. Choose Average of All, Average of Best N (the default, with N = 2) or Sum of Marks (scaled). Import Internal Marks once those tests are published
- Assignments Share of Internal (%): part of the internal mark taken from the graded homework of the subject and term. For example, 30 % homework and 70 % tests
- Attendance marks: a scale turns each subject's class attendance % into marks (one 5-mark scale comes ready). Attendance is counted from the period registers over the exam's attendance period
Attendance eligibility
- No Minimum (the default), Minimum per Subject or Minimum on Overall Attendance, with a minimum of 75 % to start with
- Not Eligible List, and Condone per paper or overall with a reason
- A student who is not eligible cannot be given marks
Exam fees
- Exam fee per student, per paper, or both, raised as a due on the student's fee account when the exam is scheduled
- Due 7 days after scheduling (a setting); Hall Ticket After Exam Fee is on by default
- Hall tickets can also be withheld for other overdue fees, with grace days (0 to start with); the accounts office can let one student through
- Reset to Draft or Cancel takes the dues back; money already paid becomes credit
- Families pay with the other fees, at the counter or online
A subject examined in parts
- Parts of a paper (Theory, Practical, Viva, Project, Other), each with its date, time, room, evaluator and maximum
- Parts as dates only, with one mark for the subject. Or Marks per Part: each part counting as internal, practical or external, with its own attendance
- Parts merged by adding, weighted (each part scaled to its marks) or best N
- Pass on the subject, or also in each part that has a pass mark; grace is not offered to a student who failed a part
- Absent in one part: the parts written count, or absent for the whole subject (chosen per paper)
- Usual parts kept on the subject, so each new paper starts with them
- Families see the parts under the subject, for example "Theory 52 / 70 · Practical 24 / 30"
Reports and dashboard
- Results Analysis: published results as a pivot and a graph
- Examination dashboard: exams scheduled, mark entry open, papers waiting for marks, revaluations open, results, exams by status
- With several schools: pass rate and average percentage per school on the group dashboard
Who uses it
Exam in-charge (Exam Cell)Sets up exam types, grade scales and exams, schedules them, opens mark entry, locks and reopens papers, condones attendance and publishes results.
Teacher (Evaluator)Enters and submits the marks of the papers given to them, on the web or in the Campus app.
PrincipalFollows papers waiting for marks and the results on the dashboard and in Results Analysis.
Accounts officeCollects exam fees with the other fees and lets a student through a fee hold when the school agrees.
Parents and studentsSee the published results and download the mark sheet on the portal and in the Campus app.
Where you use it
- Web: Examination > Exams (Exams, Mark Entry, Mark Entry by Part, Results, Student Marks), Examination > Configuration and Examination > Reporting
- The Campus app, staff view: Marks, the papers a teacher evaluates, with a draft saved and Submit. A paper in parts shows a column per part. Built and in testing, not in the app stores yet

Questions
Can teachers enter marks on their phone?
Yes. The staff view of the Campus app lists the papers a teacher evaluates. It takes the marks, saves a draft and submits the sheet, with the same checks as the web. The app is built and in testing, not in the app stores yet.Does it follow CBSE grading?
A 9-point scale in the CBSE style (A1 to E, E below 33 %) comes ready. You can change it, or add your own scale for ICSE or your state board with your own bands, grade points and fail grade. Can homework count in the internal mark?
Yes. Set Assignments Share of Internal (%) on the exam. That share comes from the graded homework of the subject and term, and the rest from your periodic tests. Attendance can add marks too, through an attendance mark scale. Can a teacher change marks after submitting?
No. Only the exam cell can reopen a submitted or locked paper, while the exam is in mark entry. After publishing, the Group Administrator can unpublish to open mark entry again. Can we bring in last year's marks?
Yes. The import workbook has sheets for grade scales, exam types, past exams, exam papers, past marks, past attendance % and co-scholastic grades. Imported exams come in published, so ranks and report cards are right. Is a practical exam on another day handled?
Yes. Give the paper parts, such as Theory and Practical, each with its date, maximum and evaluator. The parts are merged into the subject by adding, weighting or best of, and you choose whether each part must be passed.Related features
