Prices, quantity breaks and taxes

The counter takes each price from the register's price list and drops to a lower price by itself when the quantity reaches a break. It works out taxes included in the price or added on top.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • A customer buying a dozen gets the single-piece price because the cashier forgot the bulk rate.
  • Some items have GST inside the MRP and others have it on top, and the bill gets one of them wrong.
  • A customer from another state needs IGST instead of CGST and SGST.
  • Cashiers type their own prices, and nobody knows which sale was under the list.

How it works

  1. The POS Administrator puts a Price List on each register. A product without a rule in it sells at its Sales Price.
  2. A rule with a minimum quantity is a quantity break. When the cart reaches that quantity, the lower price applies by itself.
  3. Taxes come from the product's Customer Taxes. A tax set as included is taken out of the price; one not included is added on top.
  4. When the customer has a fiscal position, such as one for another state, the taxes are swapped as it says.
  5. The selling screens show prices with taxes on the product buttons and the taxes apart in the totals.
  6. A cashier may type another price only on a product ticked Price May Be Changed at the Counter. A lower price on any other product counts as a discount and needs a reason.

Everything it does

Prices

  • From the register's Price List; else the product's Sales Price
  • Quantity breaks from the price list and from the lists its rules are based on
  • The same price in the back office, on the web counter and in the app, also without signal
  • From Growth a register can also honour customers' own price lists

Taxes

  • From the product's Customer Taxes, filtered to the register's Entity
  • Included in the price or on top, and both kinds on one bill
  • Mapped by the customer's fiscal position
  • Totals show Untaxed, Taxes, Rounding and Total; the receipt shows the same

Changing a price at the counter

  • Price May Be Changed at the Counter: any price may be typed
  • Otherwise a higher price is refused and a lower price is a discount with a reason, judged against the limits
  • No Discount at the Counter: the price cannot go down at all
  • Each line keeps its list price, so "You saved" and the discount reports compare with it

After payment

  • A paid order is never repriced; it is refunded at the prices it was sold at
  • Cash totals are rounded when the register has a Cash Rounding

Who uses it

POS AdministratorSets the price lists, quantity breaks, taxes and fiscal positions.
CashierSells; the price and tax are filled in as the cart changes.

Where you use it

  • Web: the price lists, taxes and fiscal positions of the accounting set-up; the register's Price List
  • Web: the orders of the back office, and from Growth Point of Sale > Counter > Sell
  • The SmartMy POS app: prices, breaks and taxes kept on the device and refreshed with Sync now. It is built and in testing, not in the app stores yet
  • Not built: GST e-invoices, e-way bills or GST return filing; the POS works out and posts the tax

What you control

Settings

  • Price List: one per register
  • Price May Be Changed at the Counter and No Discount at the Counter: off on a new product
  • Included in price: set on each tax

Approvals

  • Counter approval: a lower price beyond the cashier's discount limit is approved like a discount (Growth)

Questions

Does the bulk price work in the app without signal?

Yes. The app keeps the price list and its quantity breaks on the device and prices the cart the same way as the server.

Can we sell at MRP with GST inside?

Yes. Set the tax as included in the price. The counter takes the tax out of the price and shows it apart in the totals.

What stops a cashier from typing a lower price?

A lower price counts as a discount. It needs a reason, and above the register's limit it is refused on Starter or needs a supervisor from Growth.

Does it file GST returns?

No. It works out the tax on each sale, and from Growth posts it to the accounts.

Can members get their own prices?

Yes, from Growth: the register honours the price lists you list on it. See customer price lists.

Anything that breaks a rule when it arrives waits for a supervisor to record again or discard.
