Booking fee passed to the buyer

Per event, choose who bears SmartMy's fee on each paid ticket: you, or the buyer as a booking fee on top of the price. With the booking fee you keep the full ticket price, and the fee shows as a line of its own everywhere.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • The ticketing fee eats into a school's ticket income, and the treasurer has to explain the gap.
  • A convenience fee appears only at the last step, and buyers feel cheated.
  • The fee is mixed into the ticket income, so the accounts never show it apart.

How it works

  1. On the event's Accounting tab, set SmartMy's Fee is: Borne by Us (to start with), or Added to the Buyer's Total as a Booking Fee.
  2. With the booking fee, each paid ticket carries a fee equal to SmartMy's fee on that ticket, with the GST on it.
  3. The event page says that a booking fee is added to each paid ticket, and the order form shows it as its own line.
  4. The receipt and the accounting entry show the booking fee apart, on its own income account.
  5. Beside each price, You Get then shows the full ticket price.

Everything it does

How it is worked out

  • Per paid ticket, on what the buyer pays for the ticket itself, after any promo code
  • Equal to SmartMy's fee on that ticket with its GST
  • Nothing on free tickets, complimentary tickets, add-ons, stalls or sponsors

Where it shows

  • The event page: A booking fee is added to each paid ticket
  • The order form and the order: a Booking fee line
  • The receipt: a Booking fee line
  • The Sales and Money reports: a booking fee column

Accounts and tax

  • Booking Fee Income Account: empty means the ticket income account
  • Tax on the Booking Fee: empty to start with; your own tax on top of it if your accountant says so

Refunds

  • Not paid back when the buyer cancels within the refund terms
  • Paid back in full when you cancel the event or the session
  • SmartMy's fee is not given back to you when a ticket is cancelled or refunded

Questions

Can we charge our own convenience fee?

Not as a separate fee. The booking fee equals SmartMy's fee on each ticket. You can put your own charge into the ticket price.

Is the buyer told before paying?

Yes. The event page says a booking fee is added, and the order form shows it as a line before the total.

Does the buyer get the booking fee back?

Not when they cancel within your refund terms. When you cancel an event or a session, it is paid back in full.

Is GST charged on the booking fee?

The fee includes SmartMy's GST on it. Whether your own tax is due on it is for your accountant; none is charged unless you set one.
