Checklists, inspections and snags
Inspect work at its place with your own checklists: pass or fail, measurements against tolerances, photos and the engineer's signature. Failed points become snags with a photo before and after, fixed by the crew or subcontractor and closed by your engineer. Material received at a site store gets its own receipt check.
PLANSEvery plan
The problem it solves
- The engineer checks the cover blocks before the pour, but there is no record of it when the column cracks a year later.
- Snags are written on a paper list that goes missing at handover.
- A subcontractor says the plaster was fixed; nobody has a photo of before or after.
- Cement arrives a grade short or damp, and it is found only after it is used.
How it works
- An administrator keeps checklists under Construction > Site > Configuration > Checklists. Points are of kind Pass / Fail, Measurement (unit, lowest and highest allowed) or Text. Mark Photo Needed where you want proof. Eight come ready.
- On site, start an inspection under Site > Quality > Inspections, or in the app: project, checklist, place and whose work it is. The points come from the checklist.
- Answer each point Pass, Fail or Not Applicable, type measurements, add photos and remarks, and sign. A measurement outside its limits fails by itself.
- Press Done. Every point must be answered and every photo asked for added. The result is Passed or Failed, and the inspection is locked.
- Each failed point becomes a snag with its photo, place, trade and whose work it is. Snags can also be raised by hand from a site walk, the client or a buyer.
- Whoever fixes it adds the photo after and presses Fixed. A Construction Manager checks it and presses Close, or Reopen.
Everything it does
Checklists
- Name, kind of work, How to Check notes, points in order; for one entity or every entity
- Point kinds: Pass / Fail, Measurement (unit, From and To), Text; Photo Needed per point
- Ready to use: Before Concrete Pour (cover blocks, reinforcement, slump, cube samples, curing), Brickwork, Plaster, Tiling, Waterproofing (ponding test 24 h). Also Electrical Conduits before Plaster, Plumbing Pressure Test, Material Receipt
- Archive a checklist you no longer use
Inspections
- Numbered; project, place, checklist, date, inspector, whose work (subcontractor or crew), notes
- Per point: Pass, Fail or Not Applicable, the measured value, a text answer, a photo, a remark
- Result per point: OK, Not OK or Not Answered; Failed Points counted
- Done refuses open points and missing photos; a done inspection is not changed
- Inspector's signature on the Signature and Notes tab
- Filters: Failed, Draft, by date; group by project, checklist, whose work, result
Snags
- What is wrong, place, trade, source (Site Walk, Inspection, Client, Handover / Buyer, Other), Normal or Urgent
- Fixed By (a subcontractor, or empty for your crew), Follows Up, Fix By date, photo before
- Fixed needs the photo after; Close is for Construction Managers; Reopen counts how often
- A closed snag is not changed; reopen it first
- Kanban by Open, Fixed, Closed, with days late on each card
- Filters: Not Closed, Fixed to Verify, Overdue; group by project, place, fixed by, trade
- With unit sales: buyer snags at handover and in the defects period, on the buyer's sale
Material receipt checks
- A done incoming receipt at a project's site store opens a draft inspection on the Material Receipt checklist
- Points: quantity as per the delivery note, brand, grade and size as ordered, test certificate received. Also no damage, no moisture and within shelf life (with a photo)
- The receipt and its inspection link to each other
Reports
- Quality Dashboard: inspections passed and failed, first-time results, failures by whose work, snags not closed and overdue, open snags by trade
- Site Dashboard: snags not closed
Who uses it
Site engineerInspects work with the checklist, signs, and raises snags on site walks.
Foreman or site supervisorGets snags fixed by the crew or the subcontractor and adds the photo after.
Construction ManagerCloses or reopens snags and reads the Quality Dashboard.
AdministratorKeeps the checklists and their tolerances.
StorekeeperCompletes the receipt check when material arrives.
Where you use it
- Web: Construction > Site > Quality (Inspections, Snags); checklists under Site > Configuration
- The SmartMy Construction app: Quality tab to start an inspection, answer points with photos and finish it. Raise snags with a photo, mark fixed, close or reopen. It works without signal and sends when back online. Built and in testing, not in the app stores yet
- Not on the client or subcontractor portal: subcontractors do not see their snags there
What you control
Settings
- Checklists, their points, tolerances and Photo Needed
- Checklists per entity or for every entity
Notifications
- No messages are sent for snags or inspections; overdue snags show on the list, the board and the dashboards
Questions
Can we add our own checklists?
Yes. Change one of the eight that come ready or start a new one. Use pass or fail points, measurements with limits, text answers and photos where you need them.Does a failed inspection make the snags by itself?
Yes. Each failed point becomes a snag with its remark, photo, place, trade and the subcontractor whose work it was.Who can close a snag?
A Construction Manager, and only after it is marked Fixed with the photo after. If the fix is not right, Reopen sends it back and counts the reopening. Can the engineer inspect without a signal on site?
The app keeps answers and photos on the phone and sends them when it is back online. It is built and being tested; it is not in the app stores yet.Can buyers raise snags on the portal?
Not yet. Your team records buyer snags at handover and in the defects period on the buyer's sale, with the source Handover / Buyer.Related features

Inspection requests go by email to the client's engineer, the consultant or a third-party inspector. They record the result on a link, without a login. Each is due on its date and passed or failed against its limits. A failed test raises a non-conformance by itself; a closed one charged to a subcontractor comes off their next running bill. With the quality gate on, work is certified for billing only when its hold points have passed.MONEYMaterial requests, orders, transfers and issuesSite staff ask for material from the site or the app, and a manager approves.
