Faculty view in the app
The faculty view of the Campus app puts the day on the phone: today's lectures and registers, assignments, marks, student leave and exam duties. The same app runs the library counter and the activity instructor's sessions, and each person sees only the pages their role allows.
PLANSEvery plan
Built and tested on our test systems with screen-by-screen checks. Not yet in the Play Store or the App Store, and not yet used by a college.
The problem it solves
- Faculty carry paper attendance sheets to every lecture, and the office types them in at the end of the week.
- A student's leave request waits until the class teacher or head of department gets to a computer.
- At the library counter, issues and returns are written in a ledger and the overdue list is made by hand.
- Club and sports instructors keep attendance in a notebook nobody else sees.
How it works
- The faculty member installs the Campus app and signs in with the same login as the web. The app opens on Today.
- Today shows what waits, such as leave to answer or hand-ins to evaluate. Below it, My periods today marks each register Not taken, Open or Closed.
- In the lecture they tap the period, tap All present, mark who is Absent or Late, and save, or save and close the register. A student on approved leave already shows On leave.
- The Menu holds the rest, under the same headings as the web: Timetable, Attendances, Homework, Examination, Student Leaves, Activities, Discipline, Library and others. A page shows only when the login has that right on the web.
- The librarian opens Library, scans a book or an ID card, and issues, returns or renews in a few taps.
- An activity instructor opens Activities, takes the attendance of a session and enters the results of an assessment.
Everything it does
Pages and who gets them
- Today: faculty with lectures on the timetable
- My timetable, Attendance, Special days, Homework, Marks (with the exam Evaluator right), Exam duties
- Student leave, Parent meetings and Meeting requests, for those who decide or take part in them
- Contact classes, for faculty of distance and online programmes, where modes of study are switched on
- Conduct, Student exit, Library, Admissions, Placements and Face enrolment, for the staff who run them
- Chat with students and parents, where you have it
- The setup stays on the web: subjects, timetables, exams, book catalogue and fine rates, activities
Lectures and attendance
- Periods of the day, with arrows for the previous and next day
- All present, then Absent or Late per student, and a remark
- Save keeps the register open; Save and close makes it final and asks first
- Periods taken by an exam show Exam and have no register; periods given to you by a substitution show in your day
- Attendance by face (By face, Class photo) where your college uses it
Assignments and marks
- New work for a class or subject group, with photos and files; Give it now, Save draft, or Send for approval
- Per student: Evaluate (marks and feedback), Return to redo or Excuse
- Coordinators approve or return work from the phone
- Marks: enter the marks of a paper you evaluate
Requests
- Student leave: approve, or reject with a reason the student reads, at your step of the chain
- Meeting requests: give a time, decline, hand over or mark done
- Conduct: report an incident; the discipline office works the cases from the same page
- Exam duties: your invigilation duties and the attendance of your hall
Library counter
- Out now, Overdue and Due today at the top; Latest issues below
- Find a member (student or staff) or a book by name, register number, accession number, title, author or ISBN. Or Scan a barcode on the book or ID card
- Issue a book: scan the copy, check the due date (the copy's loan days, 15 to start with), Issue, then Another book
- A student whose fees are overdue cannot borrow, where you hold library services for overdue fees
- Return shows the days late and the fine; Renew shows the new due date
- Mark as lost, where the fee ledger is linked: the price may be charged to the student's fees; it cannot be undone in the app
- For library staff only; the catalogue and fine rates stay on the web
Activity instructor
- My activities: the activities you instruct, with the number of students, requests and the waiting list
- Take today's attendance or a planned session: All present, then Absent or Excused; What was done; Save and mark held, or Save to finish later
- Enter results of an assessment: marks per student, or Did not attend
- The activities coordinator also approves or confirms join requests and publishes results; other instructors see that the coordinator decides these
Sign-in and the app
- The same login as the web; the app follows the web rights
- A faculty member who is also a parent sees their children under My children
- Theme: like the phone, light or dark, and a colour
- Signing out clears the class's face data from the phone

Where you use it
- Android and iPhone: the Campus app, faculty view (built and in testing, not in the app stores yet)
- Web: the same work in the back office, with the same rights
- Not in this app: a faculty member's own leave, payslips and attendance as an employee, which are in the SmartMy HRMS app
- Not in the app: asking for a substitution, writing circulars and lesson plans, which are on the web
What you control
Settings
- The pages each staff member sees follow their roles on the web
- Homework approval chain: Approved at Once to start with
- Coordinators Give Homework to Whole Classes: off to start with
- Loan days per book copy: 15 to start with, on the web
Approvals
- Faculty decide student leave, assignments (coordinators) and activity requests from the app, as steps of the approval chains your college set
Notifications
- Staff alerts arrive in the app's inbox and, where push is set up, as phone notifications while the app is closed
- Request to Approve (level): to approvers of leave, assignments and other requests; phone notification, by email and in the app; sent at once
Works with
SmartMy HRMSFaculty keep their own leave, payslips and attendance in the HRMS app; their approved leave shows on the Substitutions screen.
Questions
Is the faculty app a separate download?
No. It is the faculty view of the same Campus app that students use. The app opens it when the login belongs to a faculty or staff member with work there.Does every faculty member see the same pages?
No. Each page follows the person's rights on the web. A faculty member without the exam Evaluator right does not get Marks, and only library staff get the Library counter. Can the librarian issue books with the phone camera?
Yes. Scan a barcode reads the book or the ID card. The phone asks for camera permission the first time. Can a faculty member change a register after closing it?
No. A closed register cannot be changed in the app. Save keeps it open until the faculty member is sure.Do faculty count against our logins?
No. Faculty, mentors and heads of department are not counted.Related features
ATTENDANCE AND LEAVESubject-wise attendance registersFaculty mark each period's register on the web or on their phone, starting from all present. Students and parents see the overall percentage, each subject's figure and every absence. Exams can hold back students short of attendance, per subject or overall.TIMETABLE, ASSIGNMENTS, NOTICESAssignments, projects and study materialFaculty give assignments, projects and study material to a section or an elective group from the web or the Campus app. Students hand the work in online, faculty mark it and return it, and late or missing work is flagged by itself.ATTENDANCE AND LEAVEStudent leave, approved in stepsStudents apply for leave themselves in the Campus app or the portal, for whole days or half a day. The class teacher and then the head of department approve or reject it with a reason. The principal can be added for the leave types you choose.CERTIFICATES AND LIBRARYLibrary: catalogue, issue, return and finesKeep the catalogue and every copy with its accession number. Issue and take back books at the counter or on a phone, and late fines go to the student's fee account. Students see the books they have out, due dates and fines.ACTIVITIES, DISCIPLINE, GROUPActivities and add-on coursesOffer extra-curricular programmes, add-on courses and additional classes, free or paid, with seats, waiting lists, sessions, attendance and assessments. Students enrol on the app or the portal, fees go on the fee account, and assessments can be taken online.APPS AND PORTALCampus app and web portal for students and parentsStudents sign in to the Campus app or the web portal and act for themselves: attendance, timetable, assignments, results, electives, leave, certificates, placements and fees. Parents get their own login and see the same pages, view only unless you decide otherwise.
