Quiz scores into Campus exam marks, and the exam question bank

An online quiz can count toward an internal assessment. Send Marks to Exam writes each student's score, scaled to the paper, into the Campus mark entry. Teachers bring approved questions from the Campus exam bank into quizzes and track course outcomes.

Why it matters

Internal assessments in colleges and schools are often taken online and then typed into the exam system mark by mark. That is slow, and a wrong mark found after results is hard to undo. In SmartMy Learn the quiz is tied to the exam paper. One button writes every student's counted attempt into that paper's mark entry, scaled to its maximum, while the mark entry is open. The teacher then checks and submits the paper as usual. The same quizzes can use the approved questions of the Campus exam bank and report attainment by course outcome.

The problem it solves

  • CIA 1 is taken as an online quiz, and then a teacher types 60 marks into the exam module.
  • The exam cell's approved questions sit in one system and the online quizzes in another.
  • NBA and NAAC ask for course outcome attainment, and quiz results are not tagged to outcomes.
  • A re-marked quiz leaves the old marks in the exam sheet.

How it works

  1. On a quiz lesson, tab Quiz, choose Counts Toward. Pick an exam paper of your Entity whose mark entry is open, such as CIA 1 for this subject.
  2. Choose the Marks Part: Written (the default), Internal or Practical.
  3. After students take the quiz, press Send Marks to Exam. Each student's counted attempt (best or last, as the quiz says) is scaled to that part's maximum and written into the paper's mark entry.
  4. The message lists students with no marked attempt and students not in the paper's mark entry. Send again after re-marking: it overwrites.
  5. The teacher checks and submits the paper in Campus as usual.
  6. To fill a quiz, press Bring from Exam Bank: choose the subject, unit and difficulty and pick approved questions.
  7. For colleges: questions carry their course outcome (CO). Learn > Manage Courses > Reporting > Quizzes and Assignments > CO Attainment (Quizzes) shows the share of right answers per CO.

Everything it does

Send Marks to Exam

  • Counts Toward: exam papers of the Entity that are still in draft (mark entry open)
  • Marks Part: Written, Internal or Practical; the paper must have a maximum for that part
  • Score = attempt percentage x the part's maximum, to 2 decimals
  • Only the course's author, editors or a Learn Manager can send
  • A confirmation first: it replaces what is in the mark entry
  • Marks Sent On and the last result are kept on the lesson
  • Refused once the paper is submitted or locked

Bring from Exam Bank

  • Approved questions only, by subject, unit and difficulty (up to 200 listed)
  • Objective questions become single choice (one right option) or multiple choice
  • Short answers stay short answers
  • Long answers, problems and case studies become long answers marked by the teacher
  • The answer key becomes the explanation
  • A question brought twice is reused, not copied again

Course outcomes

  • A question's CO comes with it from the bank, or is set by hand
  • CO Attainment (Quizzes): right answers per CO from marked quizzes

Who uses it

Questions

Does sending marks submit the paper?

No. It fills the mark entry. The teacher checks it and submits the paper in Campus as before.

What if a student did not take the quiz?

Their mark is left as it is, and the message names them. Enter their mark by hand or send again after they take it.

Can we send after the paper is locked?

No. Sending works only while the paper's mark entry is open.

Which attempt counts?

The quiz's own rule: the best or the last marked attempt.

Are unapproved exam questions shown to teachers?

No. Bring from Exam Bank lists approved questions only.

Is this for schools too?

Yes. Any Campus exam paper with an open mark entry can take a quiz's marks. It can be a unit test in a school or a CIA in a college.
