Cut lists, nesting and CNC files from the approved design
The design the client approved becomes the cut list. Every panel has its cut size, edges, grain, groove, drilling and a barcode label; each board gets its sheets after nesting. The panel list goes out as a CSV, and each panel as a DXF drawing for your CNC or panel saw.
PLANSFrom Growth
Why it matters
In a modular firm the cut list is often typed again from the design. A size changed after the client's last visit is easy to miss, and the panel is cut wrong. In SmartMy Interiors the cut list comes from the same locked design the client approved and the estimate priced. It is in the Growth plan, with labels the site team scans when panels arrive.
The problem it solves
- The production designer types the cut list again from the design, and a size the client changed last week is missed.
- Nobody knows how many sheets of each board to buy until the panels are already being cut.
- Panels reach the site in stacks, and the fitters cannot tell which box a panel belongs to.
- The vendor who cuts for you gets a PDF and has to key every panel into their own machine.
How it works
- Lock the approved design for production and press Make Cut List. Or open Cut Lists, press New and pick the locked design.
- Choose who makes it: Our Factory, or A Vendor and which one, with the date it is needed by. Set the saw cut (4 mm) and the sheet edge trim (10 mm) if yours differ.
- The cut list builds itself. Every box priced from materials is broken into its panels; worktops become panels with their cut-outs written on them; fittings go to the hardware list.
- Each board is nested onto its sheets. The Boards tab shows the panel area, the sheets needed and the waste % for each board.
- Download Panels (CSV) for your panel saw or optimiser, Drawings (DXF) for your CNC, and print the Labels to stick on each panel.
- Press Release. A vendor gets the CSV and DXF files by email; your own factory gets a manufacturing order with SmartMy Manufacturing. At site, the team scans each label in the Site app as panels arrive.
Everything it does
Panels
- Label per panel: project code, cut list, room, box and part, for example P0012-C41-R1-B3-F7; never the same on two cut lists
- Room, box, part, material and thickness, quantity
- Finished length and width, and cut length and width less the edge band thickness on banded sides
- Grain Along Length on shutters: not turned when nesting
- Edges L1, L2, W1, W2 and the edge band; groove for the back panel; faces finished and the finish
- Drilling notes: hinge cups 35 mm, 22.5 mm from the edge, 100 mm from the ends (two or more per door from the hinge rule). Shelf pin rows 37 mm from the edges, 32 mm apart. Runner holes as the runner maker's template
- Worktop pieces, waterfall ends and backsplashes as panels, with each sink, socket and hob cut-out's size and place, and angled ends
Nesting
- Per board: panels laid in rows across each sheet (shelf, or guillotine row, nesting), largest first
- Sheet size from the material (2440 x 1220 mm to start with), less the edge trim on every side
- Saw cut width left between panels
- Each panel shows the sheet number it is cut from; a panel bigger than the sheet is flagged with sheet 0
- Boards tab: panel area in m², sheets and waste %; the list shows the panel and sheet counts
- Aluminium profiles sold by the running metre are listed but not nested
- Not built: true-shape nesting, or a cutting diagram drawn per sheet
Files and labels
- Panels (CSV): label, material, thickness, length, width, quantity, grain, four edges, edge band, groove, finish, faces, drilling, room, box, part, sheet; UTF-8, opens in Excel
- Drawings (DXF): a zip with one DXF (R12, in mm) per panel. Layers: OUTLINE (the cut size) and GROOVE (the back groove, 8 mm wide, 18 mm in from the edge). DRILL has hinge cups and shelf pin holes as circles
- Labels: a PDF with one label per piece, with a Code 128 barcode of the label. Each label shows project, room, box, part, cut size, material, finish, edges, grain and sheet
- Not built: G-code or toolpaths, and files in a machine maker's own format (Homag, Biesse and others). Your CAM or optimiser reads the DXF or CSV
Status
- Draft, Released to the Factory, Made, Cancelled
- Build again while it is a draft; a released cut list cannot change
- Made by hand, or by itself once its manufacturing order is done (checked every hour)
- Back to Draft and Cancel while it is not made; its manufacturing order is cancelled with it
- Filter In the Factory; the project's Production stage waits until every cut list is made
At site
- The SmartMy Interiors Site app: scan or type a label to see project, room, box, part, size and material
- Received now marks the panel Received at Site with who and when, once
- Works without signal; scans go to the server in order when the signal is back
Who uses it
Production designerMakes the cut list from the locked design, checks the panels and boards, and downloads the files.
Factory managerReleases the cut list to the factory or a vendor, prints the labels and marks it made.
Outside vendorReceives the panel list and the drawings by email and cuts the panels.
Site supervisor or installerScans each panel's label as it arrives at site.
Where you use it
- Web: Interiors > Projects > Factory > Cut Lists, and Make Cut List on a locked design
- The SmartMy Interiors Site app: Labels tab, scan or type a label (built and in testing, not in the app stores yet)
- Email: the vendor gets the files on release
- Not on a vendor page: vendors receive the cut list by email; the vendor page is for furniture and fittings orders
What you control
Settings
- Saw Cut (mm): 4 to start with, per cut list
- Sheet Edge Trim (mm): 10 to start with, per cut list
- Sheet length and width per board material: 2440 x 1220 mm to start with
- Edge band thickness, from the edge band material
- Hinge count per door from the box type's hardware rule
Notifications
- On release to a vendor: the vendor gets a message by email with the CSV and the DXF zip attached. It gives the panel count and the date needed
- No other notification events: the cut list's history is kept on its chatter
Works with
SmartMy ManufacturingReleasing a cut list for Our Factory makes a manufacturing order, with each board that has a stock product as material in sheets. The cut list becomes Made when the order is done.
Questions
Can our CNC machine read the files?
Each panel comes as a DXF in mm with its outline, back groove and drill holes on separate layers. The whole list comes as a CSV. Most CAM programs and panel optimisers read these. G-code and a machine maker's own file format are not built; tell us your machine and software. How good is the nesting?
Panels are laid in rows on each sheet, largest first, keeping the grain of shutters, with your saw cut and edge trim. It tells you how many sheets to buy and the waste. It is not true-shape nesting; for the tightest yield, run the CSV through your optimiser.Do we need SmartMy Manufacturing?
No. Without it, release the cut list to your factory and mark it made, or send it to a vendor with its files. With it, releasing makes a manufacturing order with the boards as material. What if the design changes after the cut list is made?
A locked design does not change. Make a new version, have the client approve it, lock it and make a new cut list. Cancel the old one while it is not made. Are aluminium kitchens covered?
Yes. Aluminium profile parts are listed on the cut list with their lengths. They are not nested on sheets, because they are cut to length.Related features

Your factory gets a manufacturing order with the boards it will use; a vendor gets the panel list and the drawings by email. Mix both on one project, and the project moves on only when every cut list is made.ESTIMATING AND SELLINGMaterials, box kinds and parts rulesSet up your boards, finishes, edge bands, hardware and labour with dated rates. Describe how each kind of box is built: its parts by formula, its hardware and its sizes allowed. Every box in an estimate or a design is then priced from the materials it uses, with your overhead and margin.APPSThe SmartMy Interiors appsThree phone apps on the same data as the web. A project leaves a stage only when its check passes, for example the measurement sheet approved or every cut list made.
