Takeaway, pre-order pickup and in-campus delivery

Sell food as dine-in or parcel at the counter. Takeaway, pickup and in-campus delivery bills go to the kitchen and are handed over when ready. Parcels take their own prices, GST rules and packing charges.
PLANSFrom Growth
Built and tested against our test server. The counter app has not yet run on a real tablet at an outlet and is not in the Play Store. Try it at one counter before you rely on it.

The problem it solves

  • Parcel orders are billed at dine-in prices and the packing cost is lost.
  • A department orders lunch for 1 pm, and the kitchen hears about it at 12:55.
  • Food for the staff room goes out, and nobody knows whether it reached the right block.
  • Customers crowd the counter asking whether their order is ready.

How it works

  1. On the Sell tab the cashier chooses Dine-in or Parcel. Parcel uses the parcel price list and adds the packing charge. This works offline too.
  2. For an order that waits for the kitchen, the cashier taps New takeaway / delivery on the Tables tab. They choose Takeaway, Pickup with a time, or Delivery with "Deliver to (block, room)".
  3. Items go to the kitchen stations as tickets, marked PARCEL. The bill is paid now or at handover.
  4. When every ticket is ready, the bill shows Ready to hand over. A known customer gets "Your order is ready" with where to collect it, and the menu display lists the number under Ready to collect.
  5. The cashier taps Handed over when the customer has the food or the delivery has left.

Everything it does

Order types

  • Counter (dine-in), Takeaway, Pre-order Pickup with a time, Dine-in at a table, In-campus Delivery to a block, department or room
  • Online Aggregator orders from delivery platforms (Scale)
  • Takeaway, pickup and delivery bills are listed under Takeaway / Delivery on the Tables tab
  • Progress: Not sent, In the kitchen, Ready, Handed over

Parcel prices and charges

  • Parcel Price List per outlet; empty uses the customer type's prices
  • Tax rules can depend on the order type, such as parcel GST different from dine-in
  • Packing charge per order on the outlet and per unit on each item, billed as the Packing Charge Item
  • The packing charge follows the items, takes no discount and never goes to the kitchen
  • Only a supervisor removes it; a whole bill on the house takes its packing charge with it
  • Receipts and kitchen tickets print PARCEL

Questions

Can parcel food have different prices?

Yes. Give the outlet a Parcel Price List, and add a packing charge per order, per item or both.

Is GST on parcels different from dine-in?

You can set tax rules by order type, so parcels and dine-in each take their own taxes.

Can staff order lunch from their phones for pickup?

Not as a takeaway order. Diners can pre-book a meal from the app, and the counter collects it. A pickup order is opened at the counter.

Who gets the "order is ready" message?

The customer named on the order, in the SmartMy Feast app and by SMS from your message credits. An order without a customer gets no message.
