Tax rules for food
Say which taxes apply by outlet, customer type and food category, and with Growth by order type such as dine-in or parcel. The most specific rule wins, a rule without taxes makes the sale exempt, and every bill shows its taxes.
PLANSEvery plan
The problem it solves
- The hostel mess is exempt for residents, but the canteen next door charges GST, and the cashier has to remember which.
- Parcels and dine-in carry different GST, and the bill shows the wrong one.
- The accountant fixes tax on each bill at month end.
How it works
- Your accountant sets up the sales taxes of the Entity, such as GST 5 %.
- Give each item its usual sales taxes. Without any rule, those apply.
- Go to Food Service > Configuration > Billing > Tax Rules and add a line for each exception. It can be an outlet, a customer type, a food category, and with Growth an order type. Leave a column empty when the rule is for all.
- Choose the taxes of the rule, or none to make those sales exempt.
- From then on every line of every sale takes the taxes of the most specific rule. The receipt lists taxes by name.
Everything it does
Tax rules
- Conditions: Outlet, Customer Type, Food Category (its sub-categories are included) and, with Growth, Order Type
- Order types: Counter, Takeaway, Pre-order Pickup, Dine-in, In-campus Delivery, and Aggregator with delivery platforms (Scale)
- The rule that matches the most conditions wins; between equally specific rules, the first in order
- A rule with no taxes makes the sale exempt
- No rule: the item's own sales taxes of the outlet's Entity
- Rules belong to one Entity; each line has a note
Where the taxes are used
- Every line of a counter sale, a table bill, a booking, a token and a meal plan
- The packing charge of a parcel follows the tax rules too (Growth)
- Catering orders take their prices and taxes from the outlet (Scale)
- The receipt lists each tax by name, and the shift report gives the day's takings
Tax invoices
- With Growth, Tax Invoice on a paid order makes a posted customer invoice with the GST of the lines
- With Scale, account customers get one GST invoice a month
- Bill numbers run without gaps per counter and restart each financial year
- Not offered: e-invoicing, and any claim of GST compliance
