Points, badges and leaderboards for members

Members earn points for answering meals on time, voting and rating, with a bonus for a streak of days. A no-show takes points away. Badges come by themselves, points buy wallet credit or a free treat, and hostel blocks or classes compete in low-waste challenges.
PLANSFrom Growth

The problem it solves

  • Members ignore the Are you eating question, so the headcount is a guess again.
  • A student says yes to dinner every day and never comes, and nothing changes.
  • Polls and ratings get ten replies from a mess of 400.
  • You want hostel blocks to waste less food, but have no way to measure or reward it.

How it works

  1. On your Entity's form, tab Food Service, set the points. They start at 2 for answering on time, 1 for a vote, 1 for a rating and minus 5 for a no-show.
  2. A member who answers every plan meal of a day before the cut-off earns the points. Seven days in a row give a streak bonus of 10 points.
  3. Under Food Service > Engagement, add Badges with a rule and a threshold, such as 30 days in a row or 20 ratings. The member gets the badge and its bonus points by themselves.
  4. Add Rewards that points buy: wallet credit, or a free treat given as a token for the counter.
  5. Members see their points and badges on the portal and in the app, and press Get it on a reward. Parents can do this for a child.
  6. For a challenge, put members in Teams, such as a hostel block or a class. Weigh each team's plate waste after meals, then close the challenge to score and reward the winner.

Everything it does

Points

  • Points: answer on time 2, vote 1, rating 1, no-show minus 5 (Entity settings)
  • Only the member's own first answer for a meal earns points; answers by staff or from hostel leave do not
  • Streak Length (days) 7 and Points: streak bonus 10: the bonus comes each time the streak reaches 7, 14, 21 days and so on
  • Days without plan meals do not break a streak
  • Every change of points is a line that is never changed or deleted; a correction is an adjustment
  • With loyalty switched on, points for money spent go into the same balance

Badges

  • Name, description, image, Rule, Threshold and Bonus Points
  • Rules: Streak of days, Votes, Ratings, Points earned, Challenge won
  • Given once per person, by itself, when the rule is reached
  • The member is told when a badge is given

Rewards

  • Kind Wallet credit (with the amount) or Free treat (a token type)
  • Points: the cost of the reward
  • Points per 1 of Currency: 10 to start with
  • Wallet Credit from Points per Month: 100 to start with, per person
  • A free treat is a token valid for the token type's days (30 if none is set), served at the counter like any token

Teams, leaderboard and low-waste challenges

  • Teams: a hostel block, a class or a department; a person's team is set on their contact
  • Points and Leaderboard: every point given or taken, as a pivot by person, team and reason, this month to start with
  • The leaderboard is for the food service; members do not see other members' points
  • A challenge has dates, teams, Weight of Accuracy (%) 60 and Points to each Member of the Winner 20, to start with
  • Plate waste is weighed per team after a meal, in kilograms
  • Close and Score ranks the teams. Accuracy counts answers kept: yes and served, or no and not served. Plate waste per member is compared with the best team

Who sees what

  • A member, or a parent for a child, sees their own points, badges and rewards
  • Food staff (Cashier, Accounts, Food Administrator) see the points ledger with names
  • The leaderboard pivot is in the back office only

Who uses it

Food AdministratorSets the points, badges, rewards and teams, and runs challenges.
MemberEarns points, sees badges and spends points on rewards.
ParentSees a child's points and badges and spends them on a reward for the child.
Kitchen Manager / ChefRecords plate waste per team for a challenge.

Where you use it

  • Web: Food Service > Engagement (Points and Leaderboard, Low-waste Challenges, Rewards, Badges, Teams); Food Service > Planning > Plate Waste. The Entity's Food Service tab for the points
  • Diner portal: points and badges next to the name, and Spend your points
  • The SmartMy Feast app: points on the Today card, and points and rewards under Wallet (built and in testing, not in the app stores yet)
  • Not on the counter tablet: rewards are taken on the portal or in the app; the counter serves a treat token like any other token
  • Not shown to members: a leaderboard of other members or teams

What you control

Settings

  • Points: answer on time 2, vote 1, rating 1, no-show minus 5
  • Streak Length (days) 7; Points: streak bonus 10
  • Points per 1 of Currency 10; Wallet Credit from Points per Month 100
  • Per challenge: Weight of Accuracy (%) 60; Points to each Member of the Winner 20
  • Everything is optional: points set to 0 are not given

Notifications

  • Food Badge Earned: to the member, in the app (app push once the apps are in the stores); no email, WhatsApp or SMS. It waits for quiet hours, and a member can switch it off
  • Meal No-show: to the member when points are taken for a no-show; sent at once (see Are you eating?)

Questions

Do points cost us money?

Only when a member spends them on wallet credit or a treat. You set what a point is worth and the most wallet credit a person can get from points in a month, 100 to start with.

Can other students see my child's points?

No. A member or parent sees only their own points and badges. The leaderboard is in the back office for the food service.

Can we use points without a challenge or badges?

Yes. Each part is optional. Set a point value to 0 to stop giving it, and add no badges or rewards if you do not want them.

How is a low-waste challenge scored?

Each team gets an accuracy score from answers kept, and a waste score against the team with the least plate waste per member. The weight of accuracy is 60 % to start with.

Can a cashier give points by hand?

No. Points come from answers, votes, ratings, streaks, badges, challenges and, with loyalty, money spent. A correction is added as an adjustment line in the back office.
