Parents manage children's meals and limits
Parents see each child's wallet, meals and bookings on the portal and in the SmartMy Feast app. They top up, book a meal, answer for the child, report allergies and set daily and weekly spending limits that the counter enforces.
PLANSFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- A child spends the week's canteen money on chips by Tuesday, and the parent finds out on Friday.
- Parents send cash in an envelope, and nobody knows whether lunch was bought.
- An allergy written on the admission form never reaches the counter.
- A parent wants to pay for a child's lunch from the office, and the school has no way to take it.
How it works
- The office lists the parent in the child's Menu Sent to. With SmartMy Campus, the father, mother and guardian on the student record are added by themselves.
- The parent signs in on the portal or the SmartMy Feast app. A parent of two picks a child from the list or the chips at the top.
- Under Spending limits, the parent fills in Per day and Per week. The counter refuses a purchase that would pass either limit. The child cannot change them.
- The parent tops up online, answers Eating or Not eating for plan meals. They also book a meal for a coming day, paid from the wallet or online.
- The slip of the booking has a QR code. The child shows it on paper at the counter, where the cashier scans it.
- In the app, the parent reports the child's diet and allergies. The counter shows the alert when the card is scanned, and the outlet managers are told.
Everything it does
What a parent can do for each child
- Everything the child can do: wallet and top-up, meals to answer, polls, ratings, bookings, plans and tokens, the menu
- Set the spending limits: only a parent or guardian can
- Report the diet, allergies and a note for the kitchen (app); the change is logged on the customer with who reported it
- Make a new QR card when a phone is lost; the old code stops working
- Buy or renew a meal plan in the app
- With Scale face recognition: give or withdraw consent for the child in the app
- Each child has their own wallet, plan, bookings and limits; nothing is shared between children
Spending limits
- Per day and Per week; 0 or empty means no limit
- The week runs Monday to Sunday
- Counted on what is paid on the child's bills, at every outlet of the Entity
- A plan meal or a token meal costs nothing when served, so it is not counted then
- A booking counts against the day it is made, not the day of the meal
- Blocked items and blocked food categories, such as fizzy drinks, are set by the office on the child (the student's Food tab with Campus)
- Every change of the limits is noted on the child's record with the parent's name
Booking for a child
- A meal of the next 7 days, at an outlet that takes bookings, before its cut-off
- Paid from the child's wallet, with points, or online
- The slip prints the class section under the name with SmartMy Campus
- The school is told when a parent books. Per outlet and meal, under Told of a Booking (outlet managers, the class teacher, or others such as the office)
- Each morning, the people named get the day's list of meals booked: a class teacher only for their own class
What parents are told
- Meal Served: each meal the child is served, when the outlet ticks Tell Parents When a Meal Is Served
- Weekly Menu: the next week's menu, to members and their menu contacts
- Low balance, top-up, plan and no-show messages go to the child's own contact, not to the parent
Who uses it

Where you use it
- Web portal: the Food card, one page per child, with Spending limits for parents
- The SmartMy Feast app: chips for each child on top of every screen; Wallet > Spending limits; Meals > Diet and allergies. Built and in testing, not in the app stores yet
- Counter app: the limits and blocks are checked at the counter, also offline
- Not on the portal or app: blocking items or categories; the office sets them
- Not built: a parent removed from the student record losing access by itself; the office removes them from Menu Sent to by hand
What you control
Settings
- Menu Sent to, per child: who looks after them (with Campus: father, mother and guardian added by themselves)
- Per outlet: Tell Parents When a Meal Is Served (off to start with)
- Per outlet and meal: Told of a Booking (outlet managers, class teacher, also tell); no line means the outlet managers
- Per outlet: Day's Bookings Sent at (an hour; 0 means not sent)
Notifications
- Meal Served: to the parents, when the outlet switches it on. App inbox and WhatsApp from your message credits. Promotional, so it waits for quiet hours and a parent can switch it off
- Weekly Menu: to members and parents; email, WhatsApp, app inbox; promotional
- Food Booked for a Customer and Food: Meals Booked for the Day: to those named on the outlet; transactional, sent at once
- Food Diet or Allergy Reported: to the managers of the outlets that cook for the child; transactional
- App push is built into the app and not switched on yet

Questions
Can my child change the limits I set?
No. Only a parent or guardian listed for the child can set the limits, on the portal or in the app. Will I know when my child had lunch?
Yes, if the outlet ticks Tell Parents When a Meal Is Served. You get a message for each meal served.Do I get the low-balance alert?
No. The low-balance and top-up messages go to the child's own contact. Check the balance on the child's page or in the app.Can I block soft drinks?
Ask the food service office. They block items or food categories on the child, and the counter refuses them. What happens when a guardian changes?
With Campus, a new parent on the student record is added by themselves. A parent taken off the record keeps access until the office removes them from Menu Sent to.Related features
