Subscribe and save: repeat orders

Buyers subscribe to products for a discount, and the order repeats every week, two weeks, month or two months. They get a reminder before each one and skip, change how often, pause or stop from their own page.

The problem it solves

  • Regular buyers of coffee, pet food or supplements forget to reorder and buy elsewhere.
  • You keep a list of monthly customers and call each one when it is time.
  • A buyer going on holiday wants to skip one delivery, not cancel everything.

How it works

  1. Tick Subscribe and Save on a product and set its Subscription Discount (5 % to start with).
  2. In the Shop tab, choose the repeats you offer: every week, every 2 weeks, every month, every 2 months.
  3. On the product page the buyer picks Subscribe and how often. The discount applies to that line, on top of bulk prices and deals.
  4. The first order is placed now, and the buyer gets an email with the page to manage the subscription.
  5. Days before the next order the buyer is reminded and can skip it. On the day the repeat order is made with the same items, delivery and way to pay.
  6. Cash on delivery orders are confirmed at once. For other ways the buyer pays from the order page, or is charged automatically if they chose that.

Everything it does

Products and repeats

  • Per product: Subscribe and Save, and Subscription Discount (%), 5 to start with
  • Repeats offered: every week, every 2 weeks and every month are on; every 2 months is off
  • Remind buyers this many days before each order: 2
  • One subscription per repeat chosen at checkout

The buyer's page

  • Opened from the email, or from Subscriptions on the account page
  • Skip the next order, change how often, pause, start again or stop
  • Shows the items, the next date and the last 12 orders
  • A stopped subscription cannot start again; the buyer subscribes again on the site

Repeat orders

  • Checked every hour; each due subscription makes one sales order and moves to its next date
  • Same items and quantities, the same delivery method and the same way to pay
  • A product no longer sold online is left out; with none left, the subscription pauses

In the back office

  • Website > Shop > Orders > Subscriptions: number, buyer, how often, next order, orders, status
  • Pause, Start Again, Stop; Website Managers can change items and quantities
  • Each subscription lists its orders and payment status

Questions

Does the buyer have to pay by hand each time?

For cash on delivery the order is confirmed at once. For other ways the buyer pays from the order page, unless they set up automatic payment with a saved card or UPI AutoPay.

Can a buyer skip one delivery?

Yes. Skip moves the next order on by one repeat. The reminder email before each order links to the same page.

Is the discount added to deals and bulk prices?

Yes. The subscription discount is applied on top of the bulk price and any running deal for that line.

Can I see all running subscriptions?

Yes. Website > Shop > Orders > Subscriptions lists them with the next order date, number of orders and status.
