Visitor accounts: orders, addresses and wishlist

Buyers sign in on your website with a code sent to their email. One account page holds their orders, delivery addresses, wishlist and subscriptions, on any device. Guests can still buy without an account.
PLANSFrom Growth

The problem it solves

  • Buyers lose the order email and call you to ask where their parcel is.
  • Regular customers type the same delivery address every time they order.
  • A wishlist kept on the phone is gone when the buyer opens the shop on a laptop.

How it works

  1. Accounts come on by themselves once the shop is on or the site offers memberships. Sign in then shows in the header.
  2. At checkout, a buyer can sign in with a 6-digit code by email or simply buy as a guest.
  3. Signed in, their details are filled in at checkout, and they pick one of their saved delivery addresses.
  4. My account (/account) shows their orders, addresses, wishlist, subscriptions and membership.
  5. From an order they track the delivery, ask for a return and order the same again.

Everything it does

The account page

  • Hello with the visitor's first name and email, and Sign out
  • Your orders: the last 30, with number, date and amount, each opening its order page
  • Addresses: the saved delivery addresses
  • Wishlist: what the visitor saved for later
  • Subscriptions: each with how often and Running, Paused or Stopped (Scale)
  • Memberships and the current membership with its end date, when the site offers them

Addresses

  • Name, phone, street, street 2, city, PIN or post code, state and country
  • Street and city are needed
  • Up to 10 delivery addresses per buyer; the same street and PIN updates the one already there
  • Kept as delivery addresses under the buyer's contact, so your team sees them on orders
  • Guests keep theirs in their own browser only

Wishlist and alerts

  • A signed-in buyer's wishlist is kept in the account and shows on every device
  • A guest's wishlist stays in that browser
  • Back-in-stock and price-drop emails go to the email of the account

Signing in

  • By a 6-digit code sent to the email, valid 15 minutes; no passwords
  • New buyers get an account the same way
  • A sign-in lasts 30 days on that browser
  • Account pages are never indexed by search engines or cached

Questions

Must buyers make an account to order?

No. Sign in is offered at checkout, but anyone can buy as a guest.

How does a buyer sign in without a password?

They type their email and get a 6-digit code that works for 15 minutes. The sign-in lasts 30 days on that browser.

Can a buyer see orders placed as a guest?

Yes. Orders are found by the buyer's email, so guest orders with the same email appear once they sign in.

Can I hide Sign in on a plain site?

Yes. With the default setting Sign in shows only when the site has a shop or memberships. Never hides it everywhere.
