Sell in more currencies

Show prices and take payment in more currencies than your own. Each currency has its own price list, or your prices at today's rate, and visitors switch currency or get theirs by country.
PLANSScale only

The problem it solves

  • Buyers abroad see rupee prices and leave to work out the conversion.
  • You want a round price in dirhams, not 1,247.36 converted from rupees.
  • Exchange rates move, and prices typed by hand go stale.

How it works

  1. In the Shop tab, type the currencies in Also sell in, for example USD, EUR, AED.
  2. Visitors get a currency switch in the header. Those from a country using one of your currencies see it first.
  3. For each currency, choose a price list of your own, or leave it empty to use your prices at today's rate.
  4. Rates are fetched every day from a free public source, and the converted prices follow.
  5. The visitor pays in the chosen currency. The order is priced with the same list, and the amount paid is checked against it.

Everything it does

Each currency

  • Price List: your own prices in that currency; empty means your main prices at the day's rate
  • Shown First In: country codes, such as AE, SA; empty means the countries that use the currency
  • Order of the currencies in the switch

What follows the currency

  • Product prices, delivery charges, discount codes, gift wrap and the smallest order
  • The checkout and the order itself
  • Your payment account charges in that currency, if it accepts it

Rates

  • Update Rates Every Day: on to start with
  • Today's rates come from a free public source, once a day
  • If the source cannot be reached, yesterday's rates stay

The visitor

  • Picks a currency in the header; the choice is kept in their browser
  • Without a choice: the currency for their country when the site sits behind Cloudflare, which sends the country; else your own

Questions

Can I set my own prices in dollars?

Yes. Give the currency its own price list with your prices. Without one, your main prices are converted at today's rate.

How does a visitor get their own currency?

They pick it in the header, or see the currency for their country first when the site sits behind Cloudflare, which sends the country. Otherwise they see your main currency.

Will the gateway charge in that currency?

The order and the payment request are in the visitor's currency. Your payment account must accept that currency.

Do subscriptions keep the visitor's currency?

Yes. Repeat orders are made in the currency and with the price list of the first order.
