No-transport days for holidays and strikes

Mark holidays, exam days and strike days once, for every route or only some. No runs are planned on those days, runs already planned are cancelled with your reason, and from Growth riders and parents are told why.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • A driver turns up on a holiday because nobody told him.
  • On a bandh day parents keep calling to ask whether the bus is coming.
  • Only the senior school has an exam day off, but every bus is cancelled.
  • The day's runs show as missed when there never was a run.

How it works

  1. Open Transport > Configuration > Fees and Days > No-transport Days and add the date and a name parents understand, such as Republic Day or Bus strike.
  2. Leave Only These Routes empty for every route, or choose the routes the day applies to.
  3. Save. Runs for that day are no longer planned for those routes.
  4. Runs already planned for that day are cancelled at once, with the day's name as the reason.
  5. From Growth, the riders and people told about them who follow Changes get Run Cancelled with that reason.

Everything it does

The day

  • Date, name, and Only These Routes (empty means every route)
  • One Entity per day; each Entity keeps its own days
  • Kept in an editable list, newest first
  • Filter Upcoming and a date filter; group by month or Entity

What it does to runs

  • No run is planned for the routes it covers on that date
  • Planned runs on that date are cancelled, with the name as the cancel reason
  • Adding routes to a saved day cancels their planned runs too
  • A run already running is not stopped
  • Other routes run as usual

Good to know

  • Enter the year's holidays at the start of the year; runs are planned only a day ahead to start with, so most days cancel nothing
  • Deleting a day does not bring back a run it already cancelled
  • Not taken from the SmartMy Campus holiday calendar; add the days here
  • Not in the spreadsheet import

Who uses it

Transport officeAdds the year's holidays and any sudden day off, for all routes or some.
Rider or parentFrom Growth, is told the run is cancelled and why.
Driver or helperSees no run for that day, or sees it cancelled.

Where you use it

  • Web: Transport > Configuration > Fees and Days > No-transport Days
  • Riders and parents see the run as cancelled on My transport (Growth) and in the Rider app (in testing, not in the app stores yet)
  • Not in the phone apps: days are added on the web

What you control

Settings

  • Only These Routes per day: empty means every route
  • Plan Runs Days Ahead on the Entity: 1 to start with

Notifications

  • Run Cancelled, from Growth: to the people told about each rider who follow Changes, with the day's name as the reason
  • It goes out at once; only a channel, such as email, can be switched off. Sent in the app and by email; in-app notices always arrive

Questions

Can we cancel transport for some routes only?

Yes. Choose those routes under Only These Routes. The other routes run as usual.

What do parents read?

From Growth, the Run Cancelled message carries the name you typed, so write it for them: Republic Day, Bus strike, Exam day, no pickup.

We added a holiday by mistake and deleted it. Do the runs come back?

Not runs it already cancelled; a cancelled run stays on that route and day. Runs not yet planned are planned as usual.

Does it read the school's holiday list?

No. No-transport days are kept in Transport only. Add them here at the start of the year.

Is it the same as cancelling one run?

It cancels every planned run it covers in one go, with your reason. To cancel a single run, use Cancel Run on that run.
