GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data, GSTR-2B match and bill of supply

For Indian entities: a month's GSTR-1 sheets and GSTR-3B summary as one Excel workbook for your accountant. Match the GSTR-2B against your supplier bills, and print bills of supply as a composition dealer.
PLANSEvery plan
Built; not yet tried end to end at a customer. Check the figures against the GST portal before filing.

The problem it solves

  • Every month the accountant asks for the sales register, sorted by B2B, B2C and HSN, and someone spends two days on it.
  • Input tax credit is claimed on supplier bills that the supplier never uploaded.
  • A supplier's bill in the 2B is missing from your books, and the credit is lost.
  • A composition dealer's bill goes out titled Tax Invoice.

How it works

  1. Post bills, returns and supplier bills with the right GST on each line, as you work.
  2. Open Trade > Reports > Tax and Accounts > GST Returns Data, choose the entity and the period (this month to start with), and press Make Workbook.
  3. Download the workbook: one sheet per GSTR-1 section, the HSN summary, the GSTR-3B summary and input tax credit bill by bill. Your accountant checks it against the portal and files.
  4. Download the GSTR-2B JSON from the GST portal. Open GSTR-2B Match, upload it and press Match.
  5. Read the result: bills in the 2B not in your books, bills with a different amount, and bills in your books not in the 2B.
  6. A composition dealer ticks Composition Dealer in Trade settings, and bills print headed Bill of Supply.

Everything it does

GSTR-1 sheets

  • B2B: registered buyers
  • B2CL: inter-state sales to unregistered buyers above Rs 1,00,000
  • B2CS: other sales to unregistered buyers, by place of supply and rate
  • EXP: exports and SEZ
  • CDNR and CDNUR: credit and debit notes to registered and unregistered buyers
  • HSN summary with tax by kind; an IRN column where bills were e-invoiced

GSTR-3B summary

  • 3.1 (a) taxable outward supplies, (b) zero-rated, (c) nil rated and exempt, (d) inward supplies on reverse charge
  • 4 (A) input tax credit, reverse charge and all other; 4 (C) net ITC
  • Output tax less ITC before the portal's set-off order
  • Input tax credit bill by bill on its own sheet

GSTR-2B match

  • Reads the B2B invoices of the 2B JSON
  • Matches on the supplier's GSTIN and the bill reference you entered on the supplier bill
  • In 2B, not in our books; Different amount (more than Rs 1 apart); In our books, not in 2B
  • Enter the supplier's bill number as the reference on every supplier bill, or nothing matches
  • Credit notes in the 2B are not matched yet, and tax is compared through the bill total

Bill of supply

  • Composition Dealer in Trade > Configuration > General > Settings > Billing: off to start with
  • On, customer bills print headed Bill of Supply, with the composition line
  • The setting changes the heading only: keep GST off your items so no tax is charged

Rate-wise figures

  • Tax is split by rate from each bill's tax lines
  • Check the figures against the GST portal before filing
  • The portal's JSON is not made: use the GST offline tool with the Excel

Questions

Does SmartMy Trade file our GST returns?

No. It makes the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data as Excel. Your accountant checks it against the portal and files.

Why does a supplier bill not match the 2B?

The match uses the supplier's GSTIN and the bill reference. Enter the supplier's bill number exactly as on their bill.

Does the 2B match cover only the month of the file?

Bills found in the file are matched whatever their date. The list of our bills not in the 2B is not yet limited to that month, so read it by date.

We are a composition dealer. Is tax left off?

The bill prints as Bill of Supply. The setting does not remove tax, so keep GST off your items.

Is this in the Starter plan?

Yes. GST returns data, the 2B match and the bill of supply come with the India pack on every plan.
