Books in Tally with the SmartMy Tally connector
Bill, collect and keep stock in SmartMy Trade while your accountant keeps the books in TallyPrime. Every posted bill, credit note, supplier bill, receipt and payment goes to the Tally company by itself, through SmartMyTally on your office PC. Each party lands on its own ledger, the way your books keep them.
PLANSEvery plan
Built and tried on our test systems with a stand-in Tally; not yet run against a real TallyPrime. It is set up and tried with you before you rely on it.
The problem it solves
- Your accountant will not leave Tally, so every bill is typed twice, once to bill and once into Tally.
- Party ledgers in Tally and in the billing program never agree, and the difference is found at the GST return.
- Exported files are imported by hand at month end, and a cancelled bill stays in Tally.
How it works
- We add the Tally connector to your account. You install SmartMyTally on the office PC where TallyPrime runs and enter the licence key shown under Tally > Configuration > Office server.
- Under Tally > Configuration > Entities, press Link to Tally for your Entity and pick the company open in TallyPrime. SmartMy reads its ledgers and learns how your books are kept: where party ledgers sit and how they are named.
- For each kind of party, choose how it is posted: a ledger for each customer or supplier, one ledger for all, or no party. Parties are matched to their Tally ledger once, by GSTIN or name, or made in Tally your way.
- Under Ledgers to use, each voucher type, account and tax is matched to a Tally ledger, by name where it can. Pick the rest, or press Create in Tally.
- From then on, each bill or payment posted in Trade goes to Tally right away. Tally > Vouchers shows each one: In Tally, Waiting to go, Needs a ledger or Refused by Tally with Tally's answer.
Everything it does
What goes to Tally
- Customer bill: Sales; credit note: Credit Note
- Supplier bill: Purchase; supplier refund: Debit Note
- Payment received: Receipt; payment made: Payment; any other entry: Journal
- Amounts by ledger only, with no stock items: stock stays in SmartMy Trade
- A bill reset to draft or cancelled is removed from Tally; posted again, it goes again; a changed one is replaced
Parties and ledgers
- Per kind of party (customers, suppliers, employees, others): A ledger for each person, One ledger for all, or No party
- New ledgers named Name only, Name - number, or Name (number)
- Each party matched once, by GSTIN or name, or chosen, or created in Tally
- Nothing is guessed: a voucher waits under Needs a ledger until a ledger is chosen
Delivery
- Sent right after the bill is saved, through SmartMyTally's relay to your office PC
- Waiting vouchers are tried again every 15 minutes, for example while the PC is off
- The office server is checked every 6 hours; Check now on demand
- Voucher states: Needs a ledger, Waiting to go, Sent, not confirmed, In Tally, Refused by Tally, Removing from Tally, Removed from Tally, Not sent
- Pause sending and Resume sending per Entity; Send again on a refused voucher; Read ledgers again and Read the books again
- A ready Tally dashboard
What it does not do
- It does not send items, godowns or stock to Tally
- It does not bring Tally entries back into SmartMy
- No message yet when the office PC has been offline for a day; watch Waiting to go on Tally > Vouchers
- TallyPrime must be running on the office PC for vouchers to arrive

- Not in the SmartMy Trade app
What you control
Settings
