Textile: fabric data, rolls and style orders by ratio

Keep yarn and fabric details on your items and every roll with its metres, kg, shade and dye lot. Take a buyer's style order by colour and size ratio and make one production order per colour and size in one step.
PLANSFrom Growth

The problem it solves

  • A buyer orders 1,200 shirts in three colours at a 1:2:2:1 size ratio, and someone splits it on a calculator before anything can be planned.
  • Fabric rolls sit in the godown as a total in metres, so nobody can say which shade or dye lot is left.
  • Production orders are typed one by one for each colour and size, and one gets missed.
  • The merchandiser cannot see at a glance how much of a style is cut and packed.

How it works

  1. Switch on Settings > Manufacturing > Industry: Textile. The Textile menu and the Textile tab on items appear for the Entity's users.
  2. On each item set its textile kind (yarn, grey fabric, finished fabric, garment, trim) and its count, blend, GSM, width, construction and shade. A style is a garment item with colour and size variants.
  3. Record rolls and bags under Textile > Rolls and Bags: roll number, metres, kg, width, shade and dye lot.
  4. Open Textile > Style Orders, pick the buyer, buyer PO, style and ship-by date. Press Fill by Ratio: type the colours, the sizes, the ratio and the pieces per colour, and the lines fill themselves.
  5. Press Confirm. Each line finds the style's variant of its colour and size by name.
  6. Press Make Production Orders. One confirmed production order is made for each colour and size, with that variant's BOM, and the style order moves to Cutting.
  7. Follow the order through Cutting, Sewing, Packing and Shipped. Cut and packed pieces fill in by colour and size as lays are cut and cartons packed.

Everything it does

Textile data on items

  • Textile Kind: Yarn, Grey Fabric, Finished Fabric, Garment, Trim / Accessory or Other
  • Count (40s, 2/60s, 150D), Blend (65/35 PC), GSM, Width in inches, Construction (60x60 / 92x88), Shade, Style No.
  • Shown on the item's Textile tab only when the Textile switch is on

Rolls and bags

  • A roll is a lot of a fabric, a bag is a lot of a yarn. Each has Roll / Bag No., Metres, Kg, Width, Shade and Dye Lot
  • Rolls and Bags list: edit in the list, filter In Stock, group by item, shade or dye lot, with the quantity in stock
  • Search by lot number or roll number

Style orders

  • Numbered SO-STY/year/0001; buyer, buyer PO, style, ship-by date, plant (your first plant to start with), an Odoo sales order you link, notes
  • Colours and Sizes: colour, size, variant, pieces, cut, packed and the production order of each line
  • Fill by Ratio: colours, sizes in order, a ratio such as 1, 2, 2, 1, and pieces per colour. Sizes are rounded and the last size takes the rest, so each colour adds up exactly
  • Fill by Ratio replaces the lines; lines can be edited by hand while the order is Draft or Confirmed
  • Stages: Draft, Confirmed, Cutting, Sewing, Packing, Shipped. A lay cut moves it to Sewing; when every colour and size is packed it moves to Packing; you click Shipped on the status bar
  • Make Production Orders stops and names each colour and size that has no variant on the style, so you add the value first
  • The Production button lists the order's production orders; Pack opens a new packing list
  • Filter Not Shipped (on to start with); group by status or buyer

Who can do what

  • Supervisors and Production Managers work on style orders; only a Production Manager can delete one
  • Each Entity sees only its own style orders

Who uses it

Merchandiser or production managerTakes the buyer's order by ratio, confirms it and makes the production orders.

Where you use it

  • Web: Manufacturing > Textile > Style Orders, and Rolls and Bags
  • Web: the Textile tab on an item; the Roll tab on a lot
  • Not in the SmartMy Manufacturing app: the textile screens are on the web only

What you control

Settings

  • Textile screens: Settings > Manufacturing > Industry: Textile, per Entity (off to start with)
  • Colour and size variants on the style: the Variants setting of Odoo must be on to add them
  • Plant of a style order: the Entity's first plant to start with

Questions

Does a sales order make the style order by itself?

No. You make the style order and link the sales order on it by hand. The style order then makes the production orders for each colour and size.

What if the ratio does not divide evenly?

Each size is rounded to whole pieces and the last size takes what is left. So each colour adds up to the pieces you asked for. You can change any line before you confirm.

Why does Make Production Orders stop with a message?

A colour or size on the order has no matching variant on the style. The message names them; add the colour or size value to the style and press it again.

Do we need Growth for this?

Yes. Textile data, rolls, style orders, cutting, bundles, processing and packing come with Growth. Looms, fabric inspection and style costing come with Scale.

Can we cancel a style order?

Not from the screen today. A Production Manager can delete a draft one; a confirmed order can only be moved along its stages.
