Style costing from the marker or GSM, and the SMV
Cost a style before you take the order. Fabric per piece comes from the marker length or from GSM and area, with waste on top. The making cost comes from the SMV at your cost per minute. Overhead, margin and quantity breaks price it.
PLANSScale only
The problem it solves
- A buyer wants a price today and the fabric consumption is a guess.
- Making charges are quoted from memory, not from the minutes the style takes.
- Two merchandisers price the same style differently.
How it works
- Open an estimate under Manufacturing > Products > Estimates, with the customer and the style.
- Add the fabric as a material line. Show the textile columns and give the marker length and pieces per marker; metres per piece fill in.
- Or give the fabric area per piece in square metres; with the fabric's GSM on the item, kg per piece fill in.
- Add trims and other material with a waste percent where needed.
- On the Steps tab type the SMV and your cost per minute, and press Put CMT on the Estimate. A CMT step is added, replacing an earlier one.
- Add quantities to price. Each shows cost and price per piece after overhead and margin. When the buyer agrees, tick the quantity and press Won.
Everything it does
Fabric
- Marker Length (m) / Pieces per Marker = metres per piece
- Fabric Area per Piece (sq m) x GSM / 1,000 = kg per piece
- The textile columns are hidden in the list to start with; show them from the column menu
- Waste (%) on each material line is added to its cost and to the BOM made when won
CMT
- SMV (min) and Cost per Minute on the estimate
- Put CMT on the Estimate adds a step CMT: minutes per piece = SMV, cost per hour = cost per minute x 60
- The SMV is typed; it is not read from the style's operation bulletin
Pricing (from estimates)
- Overhead 10 % and margin 20 % to start with, per estimate
- Quantities: cost and price per piece and total for each quantity (100 to start with)
- Print and Send; Won makes the item (or uses the existing one), its BOM and a quotation for the customer; Lost needs a reason

- Web: Manufacturing > Products > Estimates (Planner role and above)
- Printed: the estimate PDF
- Not in the SmartMy Manufacturing app: the textile screens are on the web only
What you control
Settings
- Textile screens: Settings > Manufacturing > Industry: Textile, per Entity (off to start with) (the marker, area and CMT fields show only then)
- Overhead 10 % and margin 20 %: per estimate
- Cost per minute: per estimate, not a setting of the Entity
Questions
Can we cost from the marker?
Yes. Give the marker length and how many pieces it holds; metres per piece fill in. Add waste in percent on the same line.We knit and sell by weight. Can we cost in kg?
Yes. Give the fabric area per piece in square metres; with GSM on the fabric item, kg per piece fill in.Does the SMV come from the operation bulletin?
Not by itself. Type the SMV from your bulletin on the estimate; the bulletin's total SMV is on the assembly line screen. What does Won make?
The item (or the existing item you chose), its BOM with the material and waste, and a quotation for the quantity the buyer takes.Related features
