Assignments with rubrics, handed in from the player or the app
Set assignments as lessons, handed in as a written answer, files or both. Mark them against a rubric whose points add up to the marks. Return work for changes with feedback, and every mark goes to the gradebook.
PLANSFrom Growth
Built and checked in code; not yet installed on a test system or used by a customer.
The problem it solves
- Assignments arrive on paper, by email and in WhatsApp, and some are lost.
- Two teachers mark the same work differently because nobody wrote down what earns the marks.
- Students never find out what to fix, so the same mistakes come back.
How it works
- Add a lesson of kind Assignment and write the instructions on it. On the Assignment tab choose how work is handed in, the due date, the marks and, if you like, a rubric.
- Learners open the lesson and hand in a written answer, up to 5 files of 50 MB each, or both. Late work is flagged.
- The course's author and editors are told and find the work in Learn > Manage Courses > Learning > Marking > Assignments to Mark.
- The marker gives points per rubric criterion with a comment, or plain marks, and writes feedback. Mark finishes it.
- Or Return for Changes, with what to change in the feedback. The learner hands in again and the count of hand-ins goes up.
- Marked work that meets the pass mark completes the lesson, and its score goes to the gradebook.
Everything it does
The assignment lesson
- Hand In: Written Answer, Files, or Written Answer and Files (the default)
- Due: Due Days After Joining, or a Due Date; otherwise the course's due date
- Late Handing In Allowed: on to start with; late work is flagged Late
- Can Hand In Again When Returned: on to start with
- Marks: 10 to start with; Pass Mark (%): 0 means done once marked
- Rubric: chosen from Learn > Manage Courses > Configuration > Courses > Rubrics
Rubrics
- A rubric has criteria, each with points (5 to start with) and what earns them
- Rubrics belong to an entity and are reused across assignments
- Points given are added up and scaled to the assignment's marks: 15 of 20 points on a 10-mark assignment is 7.5
- Points per criterion must be between 0 and the criterion's points; each has a comment
Handing in
- From the lesson in the player, or the lesson page inside the SmartMy Learn app
- Up to 5 files of 50 MB each, kept in your entity's storage
- One submission per learner and assignment; handing in again after a return updates it
- While waiting to be marked, the lesson shows as half done
- Files are seen only by the learner, the course's authors and editors, and Learn Managers
Marking
- Mark: needs marks between 0 and the maximum; records who marked and when
- Return for Changes: needs feedback first
- Statuses: Handed In, Returned for Changes, Marked
- Assignment Results report: score, percent, passed, late, times handed in
- Check Originality and peer review add to the assignment where installed and switched on
