Drawings made from the model

Furnished plans, elevations of every wall, tile layouts, ceiling sections, ceiling and electrical plans come straight from the 3D design. They form a numbered drawing set with a cover, an index and a title block. Each issue is a revision in the drawing register for the client to sign off.
PLANSScale only

The problem it solves

  • The 3D design changes after the client meeting, and the AutoCAD elevations are a version behind.
  • A draughtsperson spends days on elevations the site team then reads wrongly because switch heights are missing.
  • Nobody knows which revision of the drawings the carpenter is working from.
  • Tile cuts are found at site, not on paper.

How it works

  1. Finish the design in the 3D designer. Every drawing reads the model as it is now.
  2. Print any sheet on its own from the design: Furnished Plan, Elevations, Tile Layout, Ceiling Sections, Reflected Ceiling Plan, Lighting and Electrical Plan.
  3. Press Drawing Set on the design. Tick the sheets and rooms to include, choose Issued For (approval, construction, information), Drawn By and a note for the cover.
  4. Press Print to look at it, or Issue to make the PDF as the next revision (R0, R1 and on).
  5. With the drawing register, an issue becomes a revision of the project's drawing set. Issued for approval, it goes to the client to sign off; the client downloads the last issued set from the 3D page under Plans (PDF).

Everything it does

Sheets

  • Furnished Plan: a floor page, then a page a room with every wall's length and each door's and window's size. It shows joinery, feature walls, furniture, curtains, rugs, decor and bathroom pieces; things hung high dashed
  • Elevations: every wall seen from inside, two to four a page at 1:50 or 1:75. They show doors and windows, boxes with doors, drawers and widths, feature wall parts, finishes and skirting. Also lights and switch boards at their heights, curtains with their drop, the false ceiling's line
  • Tile Layout: floors and tiled walls piece by piece in their pattern from the room's first corner. Cut pieces are marked in yellow and counted against what is bought
  • Ceiling Sections: two cuts a room with drops, steps, coves and their LED, and a 1:20 detail of the edge
  • Reflected Ceiling Plan and Lighting and Electrical Plan with a legend and each room's light level
  • Site, Roof and Elevations when the building draws its outside: site plan, roof plan and an elevation of each side

The drawing set

  • A cover with the design's first snapshot, and an index. Sheets numbered A-001 (site), A-101 (plans), A-201 (elevations), A-301 (tile layouts), A-401 (sections), A-501 (ceiling plans), E-601 (lighting and electrical)
  • A title block on every sheet: company and logo, project, client, drawing, sheet, scale, revision, date, drawn by
  • One set per design version; every issue kept with its PDF, sheet count, purpose and who issued it
  • A4 landscape; room pages at 1:50

Revisions and sign-off

  • Issue makes the next revision; with the drawing register it becomes a revision of the project's drawing DS
  • Issued For Approval goes to the client at once when the project has a client contact; otherwise it waits as a draft
  • Signed off, it is the set for site like any other drawing; the Production Design check of the project stages reads it

What it is not

  • Not a CAD drafting tool: you cannot draw extra lines or dimensions on the sheets
  • Sheets are PDFs; DXF plans per level come from the SketchUp exchange, and per panel from the cut list

Who uses it

DesignerPrints sheets as the design moves and issues the set when it is ready.
Project managerSees the revisions in the drawing register and which set is approved for site.
Site supervisor and carpenterWork from the issued for construction set: elevations, tile layouts and ceiling sections.
ClientSigns off the set issued for approval and downloads the last set from the 3D page.

Where you use it

  • Web: a design > Print, and the design's Drawing Set button
  • Web: Interior Design > Drawings > Drawing Sets and Drawings
  • The client's 3D page: Plans (PDF); the decision page for sign-off
  • Not in the phone apps

What you control

Settings

  • Per set: which sheets (all ticked to start with), rooms, Issued For, Drawn By, note on the cover
  • Company name and logo for the title block from the entity

Notifications

  • Please Decide: to the client when a set is issued for approval, at once. By email and WhatsApp (WhatsApp once its template is approved by Meta)
  • Client Decided: to the owner of the drawing when the client signs off or asks for changes

Questions

Do the drawings update when the design changes?

Yes. Every print reads the model as it is now. An issued revision is kept as it was; issue again for the next revision.

Can I export to AutoCAD?

The sheets are PDFs. The building's plan per level can be downloaded as a DXF from the SketchUp panel. Each cut list panel comes as a DXF for the CNC.

What paper size and scale?

A4 landscape. Room plans print at 1:50, elevations at 1:50 or 1:75, ceiling sections with a 1:20 edge detail.

How many sheets does a set have?

It depends on the rooms and the sheets you tick. On our demo, a three-bedroom home's full set came to 64 sheets.

Has this been checked?

Yes, on our demo: a set issued and looked at page by page, every sheet type. It has not yet been used at a customer.
