Items with diet, allergens and combos, and a fixed menu

Each item carries its diet, allergens, calories and spice level, the outlets that sell it and its category. Give each session a fixed menu, mark tea and drinks as sold all day, and strike out a dish that ran out.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • A child with a peanut allergy is served a sweet with groundnuts because nobody at the counter knew.
  • The cashier sells dinner items at breakfast because every item is on one long list.
  • A dish runs out at 1 pm and people keep paying for it.
  • Parents ask what is in the food and how much of it is fried.

How it works

  1. Add the item under Food Service > Items > Menu and Retail Items. A menu item is cooked here; a retail item is sold as bought.
  2. On the Food Service tab fill in the category, diet, allergens, calories and spice level, and the outlets that sell it.
  3. Open the outlet and press Fixed Menu. Pick the items for each session and save. A one-day menu is kept and published each day by itself.
  4. Tick All Day on items such as tea, water or chips so they sell in every session.
  5. Tick Sell from the Session's Menu on the outlet's Menus tab. The counter then offers the session's menu and the all-day items; anything else needs a supervisor.
  6. When a dish runs out, mark it sold out from the counter or the kitchen. It is struck out for the day and back the next morning.

Everything it does

Items

  • Food Service Use: Menu Item, Retail Item or Raw Material; Prepared Item (sub-recipe) with Scale
  • Food Category, in a tree such as Snacks > Fried
  • Diet: Vegetarian, Egg, Non-vegetarian, Jain or Vegan
  • Allergens: ten come ready (Milk, Egg, Peanut, Tree Nuts, Gluten, Soy, Fish, Shellfish, Sesame, Mustard); add your own
  • Calories (kcal) and Spice Level: Not spicy, Mild, Medium or Hot
  • Sold at: the outlets; empty means every outlet of the Entity
  • Sizes such as small and large are product variants; an item's barcode can be scanned at the counter

Combos and add-ons

  • A combo has parts, each a fixed item or a choice between items, with a default choice and a quantity
  • Add-ons are extras listed on the item
  • Not used by any selling screen yet: the counter, the kiosk and the booking pages do not offer add-ons or the choices inside a combo. Sell an extra as its own item and a combo as one item at its price

The fixed menu

  • Fixed Menu on the outlet: the items of each session, the same every day
  • Kept as a one-day menu cycle whose daily menus are published at once
  • Daily menus are prepared 7 days ahead to start with, by a daily job and whenever the menu changes
  • A daily menu changed by hand is kept until you press Rebuild from Cycle; Publish and Unpublish on each menu
  • Rotating menus over several days and festival days need Growth

At the counter

  • Sell from the Session's Menu: the session's published menu and the All Day items. An item off the menu needs a supervisor, recorded on the line
  • Sold Out Today: marked from the counter or the kitchen. It is not sold at the counter or the kiosk, struck out on the menu board, back the next day
  • With Growth, the counter shows a red alert when an item contains an allergen of the customer or is not vegetarian for a vegetarian customer

  • Publish Menus Automatically: off (the fixed menu publishes its own daily menus)

Questions

Can the counter warn about allergies?

Yes, with Growth. When a scanned customer's allergies match an item's allergens, or a vegetarian is sold a non-vegetarian item, the counter shows a red alert. The cashier decides with the customer.

Can customers pick the drink inside a combo at the counter?

Not yet. Combos and add-ons are recorded on the item, but no selling screen offers the choices. Sell the combo as one item at its price.

Our menu is the same every day. Do we need menu cycles?

No. Use Fixed Menu on the outlet, in every plan. Menus that rotate over several days, and festival days, need Growth.
