Modes of study: regular, evening, weekend, distance, online

Give each programme its mode of study: regular, part-time, evening, weekend, distance, online or blended. Evening and weekend timetables stay inside the mode's days and hours, and distance and online programmes run on contact classes instead.
PLANSScale only
Built, not yet installed and tested: checked in code only, and its tests are written and not yet run. We try it with you before go-live. Attendance rule sets work for contact classes only, not for evening, weekend or part-time programmes.

The problem it solves

  • The evening B.Com and the day B.Com share one programme, so their timetables, fees and lists get mixed up.
  • A weekend class is put on a Wednesday by mistake, and working students cannot attend.
  • Distance-education students are kept in a separate register because the college system only knows day classes.
  • Nobody notices students still enrolled long after the university's maximum years to finish.

How it works

  1. Tick Modes of Study on the college's Entity form (Modes of Study tab, colleges only). Choose the Default Mode for new programmes.
  2. Check the seven modes that come ready: Regular, Part-time, Evening, Weekend, Distance, Online and Blended. Each has its delivery, class days and hours, and whether it uses a weekly timetable, contact classes or study centres.
  3. Give each programme its Mode of Study. A programme run in two modes is two programmes, for example B.Com and B.Com (Evening), each with its own intake, timetable and fee structure.
  4. Build the weekly timetable as usual. For an evening or weekend programme, only periods inside the mode's hours are offered. A class outside its days or hours is refused.
  5. When one class must be outside, such as a Saturday lab, tick Outside the Mode's Hours on that entry and give the reason.
  6. Distance and online programmes have no weekly timetable: they get contact programmes. The Contact Classes dashboard shows students by mode and by study centre.

Everything it does

The modes

  • Kinds: Regular (full-time), Part-time, Evening, Weekend, Distance (ODL), Online, Blended, Other
  • Delivery: in person, online, or both
  • Weekly Timetable, Contact Classes and Study Centres switches per mode
  • Class days (Monday to Sunday) and Classes From / Until; no days and both hours at 0 means any time
  • Evening comes as Monday to Friday, 17:30 to 21:30; Weekend as Saturday and Sunday, 08:00 to 18:00
  • Distance, Online and Blended come with contact classes and the rule set Contact Classes (75 %); Distance also with study centres
  • Description for Applicants: shown on the admission record when a programme of this mode is chosen
  • A mode in use by a programme cannot be archived

Programmes

  • Mode of Study on the programme; its semesters and students take it
  • The mode can change only while none of its students is in a running semester
  • Mode in the Programme Name: on to start with, shows B.Com (Evening) in lists; Regular keeps the plain name
  • Normal Duration (Semesters) and Maximum Years to Finish. The student filter Past Maximum Duration lists students past it (a list only, nothing is done to them)
  • Exams Run By (this college or the university), Awarding University, University Programme Code and Centres

Timetable inside the mode

  • Periods offered are those inside the mode's hours
  • A class on a day or hour outside the mode is refused, with the mode's days and hours in the message
  • Outside the Mode's Hours with a Reason allows one entry
  • A weekly class for a mode without a weekly timetable (distance, online) is refused

Fees per mode

  • Each mode is its own programme, so B.Com (Evening) or B.A. (Distance) gets its own fee structure
  • Contact-programme or exam-centre charges are ordinary fee heads on that structure

Dashboard and import

  • Contact Classes dashboard: short of contact attendance, close to the minimum, sessions to mark, sessions held, students by mode of study, students by study centre
  • Import sheets: Modes of Study; Courses take Mode of Study, Exams Run By, Awarding University, University Programme Code, Normal Semesters, Maximum Years and Centre Codes

Not built yet

  • Attendance rule sets apply to contact classes only; evening, weekend and part-time programmes keep the exam attendance-shortage settings every programme has
  • Students and parents see the mode on the portal and app only where contact classes are concerned

Questions

Is this ready to use today?

Not yet. It is built and checked in code, but not yet installed on a test system, and its tests are not yet run. We install and test it with you before go-live.

Why is B.Com (Evening) a separate programme?

So that each mode has its own intake, sections, timetable and fee structure. The mode is shown after the name in lists, so the two are never confused.

Can an evening programme have one class on a Saturday?

Yes. Tick Outside the Mode's Hours on that timetable entry and give the reason. Without it, a class outside the mode's days or hours is refused.

Do evening students get their own attendance rules?

Not yet. Attendance rule sets apply to contact classes only. Evening, weekend and part-time programmes use the exam attendance-shortage settings every programme has.

Can we change a programme's mode later?

Only while none of its students is in a running semester. A mode that a programme uses cannot be archived until the programme has another mode.

Mark attendance on the web, from a meeting's joiners list or in the Campus app. Attendance is worked out by rule sets you set, and a short student's hall ticket can be held until the shortage is condoned.MODES OF STUDYStudy centres and exam centresKeep the study and exam centres your distance programmes use, attach each student to a study centre, and allot exam centres for each exam. The hall ticket prints the exam centre, its address and the university registration number. Add the batches that join each year, with their semesters, sections and subjects. Students are placed in a semester and get its subjects, and a whole section moves to the next semester in a few steps.TIMETABLE, ASSIGNMENTS, NOTICESWeekly timetable and holidaysSet the periods of the day, the holidays and each programme's weekly timetable once. Faculty, students and parents see the same week, with each student's elective periods added.
