Header and footer looks, mega menus included

The header and footer are the same on every page and are changed in one place. Pick a header layout, make it glass or see-through over your first picture, and build dropdowns and mega menus. Footers come with link columns, a call to action, contact details or a newsletter box.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • The menu has grown to fifteen items and visitors cannot find anything.
  • A notice about holiday hours has to be added to every page by hand.
  • The header covers half the phone screen while visitors scroll.
  • The footer is an afterthought with an old address and a dead link.

How it works

  1. In the editor, click the header on any page. Its panel opens on the right.
  2. Pick a layout from the live pictures, then set the logo, the site name, a button and a second link such as Log in.
  3. Set the background (solid, glass or transparent), how it changes after scrolling down, and whether it sits over the first section with white text.
  4. In the Menu field, keep the automatic menu of your pages. Or press + Add to the menu to make your own with links, dropdowns and mega menus.
  5. Click the footer and pick its layout and contents. A manager publishes, and every page gets the new header and footer.

Everything it does

Header layouts and parts

  • Layouts include classic, menu in the middle, centred, split, floating, bar, stacked, bold, minimal, two rows and pill
  • Notice strip with its own link, and a contact strip with phone, email and opening hours
  • Logo, a second logo for when the header sits over the first section (for example a white one), site name, button and second link
  • Search box, language switch, light and dark switch, sign-in and cart appear in the header when you turn those on

Header look

  • Background: as the layout, solid, glass (frosted, see-through) or transparent, with opacity and blur
  • After scrolling down: turns solid, turns glass or stays the same, with its own opacity and blur
  • Sits over the first section: no, yes, or yes with white text; optional dark fade so white text reads over photos
  • Background and text colour, height, full width or lined up with the page
  • Bottom edge: nothing, thin line or soft shadow, always or only after scrolling
  • Current page in the menu: darker text, underline, pill or dot below
  • While scrolling: stays as it is, gets slimmer, hides going down and comes back going up, or both
  • Menu on phones: drops down, slides in from the side, or fills the screen

Menus

  • Automatic: your pages in their order; hide a page from the menu in its settings
  • Your own menu: each item is a link, a dropdown or a mega menu, and opens a page, a #section or another site
  • Mega menu looks: columns, big icons, tiles, cards with pictures, simple list or logos; each link with an icon and a short line
  • An optional featured card in a mega menu
  • Follow my pages again goes back to the automatic menu

Footers

  • Layouts: link columns, mega, call to action, contact, simple, centred, brand, newsletter, giant and app
  • Contents: logo, name, short line, motto, call to action, address, phone, email, link columns, social links, App Store and Google Play links, copyright line
  • Footer look in the Site tab: a big rounded card rising over a picture, or big stacked links. The card is dark, light or accent, with a round logo badge
  • Sign-ups in the newsletter footer go to Form Entries

Who uses it

Website EditorSets the header, menu and footer for the whole site.
Website ManagerPublishes the change to every page at once.
VisitorFinds pages from the menu, on a computer or in the phone menu.

Where you use it

  • Web: the editor, by clicking the header or the footer on any page; scrolling effects and footer look in the Site tab
  • Not per page: every page shares one header and one footer

What you control

Settings

  • Menu: follows your pages until you make your own
  • Header while scrolling (Site tab): stays as it is to start with; each header can follow it or set its own
  • Back-to-top button, smooth scrolling and a progress line (Site tab): off unless your design turns them on

Questions

Can I have a different header on one page?

No. The header and footer are shared by every page so they stay the same. A page can hide its own sections, but not the header.

Can the menu link to a part of a page?

Yes. Give the section a link name under More, then point a menu item at #that-name.

Can I show a short notice above the menu?

Yes. Choose a header layout with a notice strip and type the text and its link. Change or clear it when the notice is over.

Are mega menus hard to use on phones?

On phones the menu opens as a drop-down, a side drawer or a full screen, as you choose. Mega menu links are listed inside it.
