Drag-and-drop editor: type on the page itself
You change your website on the page as visitors will see it. Click a heading and type, drag sections into order, and pick layouts from live pictures with your own words. Everything saves by itself, and nothing goes live until a manager publishes.
PLANSEvery plan
The problem it solves
- Every small change, a new price or a new photo, waits for the agency or the one person who knows the system.
- Back-office forms full of fields give no idea how the page will look until it is live.
- Someone changes the home page by mistake and there is no way back.
- A half-finished change goes live because saving and publishing are the same button.
How it works
- Open Websites > Sites, pick the site and press Edit Site. The editor opens in your browser with the page in the middle.
- Click any text on the page and type. A small toolbar gives bold, italic, underline, strike, link, accent colour, marker, faded colour and size.
- Click a picture to change it. Click a section to open its panel: Layout, Content, Look, Shaped edges, Animation, On phones and A/B test.
- Drag sections in the Sections tab to change their order. Press + Add section to pick a new one from the library, grouped Intro, Scroll stories, Content, Trust and Contact.
- Switch a section's layout from the live pictures; your words and pictures move with it. Check the page at computer, tablet and phone width from the top bar.
- Your work saves by itself about a second after you stop. When the page is ready, a Website Manager presses Publish; an editor sees A manager publishes.
Everything it does
The screen
- Top bar: back to your websites, the site name (type to rename) and its address, the language being edited and the page. It also has the screen size, play the animations, undo and redo
- Save state: Saved, Saving or Not saved; site state: Live, Changes not live or Not published
- Buttons for Check, Test link, Visitors, View site and Publish
- Tabs on the left: Sections, Pages, Blog, Shop (when the shop is in your plan), Design and Site
- Undo and redo with Ctrl Z and Ctrl Shift Z, up to 100 steps; a burst of typing in one field is one step
Sections
- Move up or down, duplicate, remove (Undo brings a removed section back) and, from Growth, save to My sections
- Layout: every layout of the section kind drawn with your own words; switching keeps the words
- Content: only the fields the chosen layout uses, with help under each
- Look, Shaped edges, Animation and On phones: see the design pages
- Section kinds include hero, features, steps, text with picture, gallery, video, team, price list, testimonials, numbers and logos. Others are questions, prices with a monthly and yearly switch, form, map, contact and get the app
Building blocks
- Columns and blocks: 1 to 4 columns with 22 kinds of block. Examples are text, picture, countdown, bar chart, progress bar, rating, opening hours and share buttons
- Free layout: place titles, text, pictures, buttons and shapes anywhere on a grid
- Header and footer are sections too, the same on every page
Safety
- The editor works on a draft; visitors see only the published copy
- Every publish is kept as a numbered version that a manager can bring back
- A test link shows the saved draft to a colleague or client before it goes live
- Your own HTML or scripts can be changed only by someone allowed to publish. They run on the live site only, never inside the editor
Who uses it
Website EditorChanges words, pictures, sections, pages, design and blog posts; cannot publish.
Website ManagerDoes everything an editor does, makes new sites, publishes and brings back earlier versions.
VisitorSees only the published copy, on a phone, tablet or computer.
Where you use it
- Web: Websites > Sites > Edit Site opens the editor in the browser on a computer
- Not on a phone: there is no SmartMy Website phone app, and the editor needs a computer-sized screen
- Not in other languages yet: the editor itself is in English; your site can be in many languages
What you control
Settings
- Screen size in the editor: computer, tablet or phone
- Who can publish: Website Managers only
- Your own CSS (Site tab): any editor; your own HTML or scripts: only someone who may publish
Questions
Do I need to know HTML or design software?
No. You click on the page and type, drag sections and pick layouts from pictures. Your own CSS and scripts are there for those who want them, but nothing needs them. What happens if I close the browser halfway?
Your work is saved about a second after each change, so it is there when you come back. Visitors keep seeing the last published copy until someone publishes again. Can I change the site on my phone?
No. The editor runs in the browser on a computer. The published site itself works on every phone, tablet and computer. Can an editor publish by mistake?
No. Only a Website Manager can publish. An editor sees A manager publishes instead of the Publish button. Can I undo a removed section?
Yes. Undo goes back up to 100 steps while the editor is open. After publishing, a manager can also bring back any earlier published version.Related features
