Galleries, portfolios and full-screen pictures

Show your work, rooms, dishes or events in a gallery or portfolio section. Visitors click a picture to see it full screen, and move through the rest with arrows, keys or a swipe. Each picture comes in a size that fits the screen.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • Photos of your work sit on Instagram, and the website shows three blurry ones.
  • Large photos make the gallery page crawl on a phone.
  • Visitors cannot see a picture properly because it opens in a new tab at full size.
  • An architect's portfolio mixes homes, offices and shops with no way to filter.

How it works

  1. In the editor press + Add section and choose Gallery or Portfolio.
  2. Pick a layout. A gallery can be a grid, masonry, carousel or mosaic; a portfolio a grid, masonry, overlay or carousel.
  3. Add pictures with Choose a picture: upload from your computer, or use free photos or AI pictures where your plan has them. Give each a caption.
  4. For a portfolio, give each piece of work a title, a category and an optional link, and turn on Show category buttons.
  5. Publish. Visitors click any picture to open it full screen.

Everything it does

Gallery

  • Layouts: grid, masonry, carousel, mosaic
  • Each picture: the picture and a caption; the caption is also the picture's description for blind visitors and search engines
  • Show items in a row that scrolls sideways, with arrows on computers

Portfolio

  • Layouts: grid, masonry, overlay, carousel
  • Each piece of work: picture, title, category, optional link
  • Category buttons to filter the work, with your own name for the show-all button
  • Intro text above the work

Full-screen view

  • Click a picture in a gallery or portfolio to open it full screen with its caption
  • Previous and next arrows, the left and right keys, and swipe on phones
  • Escape, the close button or a click outside closes it
  • A picture that links to a page opens that page instead
  • Product pages of the shop have their own full-screen pictures

Pictures made fast

  • Upload JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG or AVIF, up to 20 MB each
  • Visitors get a WebP copy sized for their screen
  • Set a focal point and a cut (square, wide or tall) so small copies keep what matters in view
  • Picture shape, colour filter and hover effect from the section's Look and Animation

Questions

Will a gallery of large photos be slow on phones?

No more than it needs to be. Smaller WebP copies are made by themselves, and each visitor gets the size that fits their screen.

Can visitors filter my portfolio?

Yes. Give each piece of work a category and turn on Show category buttons. Visitors pick a category or show all.

Can I show my Instagram posts?

From Growth, the Instagram section shows your latest posts, once your Instagram key is connected. It needs your own Meta developer set-up and is tried with you before go-live.

Are galleries in the Starter plan?

Yes. Galleries, portfolios and full-screen pictures are on every plan.
