Discount codes

Make codes such as WELCOME10 for a percentage off, an amount off or free delivery, with dates, a smallest order and a use limit. Buyers type the code in the cart or at checkout, and SmartMy checks it again before the order is made.
PLANSFrom Growth

The problem it solves

  • A festival offer is announced on Instagram, but the website has no way to give it.
  • Discounts are given by editing the invoice after the order, and nobody can say how many were used.
  • An old code keeps working months after the offer ended.
  • One buyer uses the first-order code again and again.

How it works

  1. A Website Manager opens the editor, Shop tab, Discount codes, and presses + Add a code.
  2. They type the code (kept in capitals) and choose what it gives. Limits are optional: smallest order, dates, uses, once per customer.
  3. They can tick Show on product pages, so the code appears in the Offers box with an offer line.
  4. A buyer types the code in the cart or at checkout and sees at once whether it applies, or why not.
  5. At checkout SmartMy checks the code again. A percentage goes on each product line; an amount off becomes a Discount code line.

Everything it does

What a code gives

  • % off: on every product line, on top of a bulk price or a deal
  • Amount off: a line on the order, never more than the order
  • Free delivery: the chosen delivery method costs nothing

Limits on a code

  • Smallest order: the code needs at least this total
  • From and Until dates
  • Uses allowed: 0 means no limit
  • Once per customer: by the buyer's email
  • On or off
  • One code per order

Messages buyers see

  • This code is not valid
  • This code is not valid today
  • This code has been used up
  • This code needs an order of at least ...
  • You have used this code before

Records

  • The code is kept on the order's Website tab
  • Website orders can be filtered by the code on them to see who used it
  • Amounts are in your entity's currency and converted when the site sells in another
  • More than 20 tries from one address in ten minutes are refused for a while

Who uses it

Website ManagerMakes, changes and switches off codes.
Website EditorSees the codes in the Shop tab.
BuyerTypes the code in the cart or at checkout.

Where you use it

  • Web: the editor's Shop tab, Discount codes
  • Your website: the cart, the checkout and the Offers box on product pages
  • Web: the order's Website tab shows the code used

What you control

Settings

  • Gives: % off to start with, value 10
  • Uses allowed: 0 (no limit)
  • Once per customer: off
  • Show on product pages: off

Questions

Does a code add up with bulk prices and deals?

Yes. A percentage code comes off the price after the bulk price or deal. For example, 10 % on top of a 5 % bulk price gives 14.5 % off that line.

Can a code work only on one category?

Not yet. A code applies to the whole order. Use a deal on the products if only some should be cheaper.

Can buyers see our codes without being told?

Only the codes you mark Show on product pages. They appear in the Offers box with your offer line and a button to copy the code.

How do I stop a code early?

Switch it off, or set Until to today. Buyers then get "This code is not valid" or "not valid today".
