Do-not-contact addresses and domains

Keep a list of email addresses and whole domains your outreach must never email: existing customers, competitors, people who asked. People who unsubscribe are added by themselves.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • A cold sequence reaches your biggest customer's purchase head.
  • A competitor's whole team ends up in a bought list.
  • Someone who asked to be left alone is emailed again from a new list.

How it works

  1. Open Marketing > Audience > Contacts and Lists > Do Not Contact.
  2. Add a line: an address ([email protected]) or a whole domain (company.com), with a reason.
  3. Outreach sequences and email broadcasts check the list before every email. A person on it is skipped, logged as Do not contact, and leaves that sequence.
  4. When someone presses an unsubscribe link, their address is added with the reason Unsubscribed.

Everything it does

The list

  • Address or Domain, Reason and Entity
  • A domain blocks every address at it
  • One line per value and Entity; the list is edited in place
  • Search by value; group by Entity

Where it is checked

  • Every email step of a sequence that sends from your mailboxes
  • Email broadcasts
  • Lines with no Entity apply to every Entity

Added by itself

  • Unsubscribe links in outreach and broadcast emails add the address, with the reason Unsubscribed

Good habits

  • Add your customers' and partners' domains before importing a bought list
  • Add competitors' domains so their teams never get your sequences
  • Write a reason on each line, so the next person knows why it is there

Where you use it

  • Web: Marketing > Audience > Contacts and Lists > Do Not Contact
  • Not in the phone app: this is done on the web. The SmartMy Marketing app covers chats, contacts, posts, leads and campaigns
  • Not for WhatsApp: WhatsApp follows consent and STOP instead

Questions

Can we block a whole company?

Yes. Add its domain, such as example.com, and no address at that domain is emailed by outreach or broadcasts.

Does it stop WhatsApp messages too?

No. The list is for email. WhatsApp marketing needs an opt-in, and STOP withdraws it.

What happens to someone already in a sequence?

At their next email step they are skipped, logged as Do not contact, and leave that sequence.

Who adds unsubscribes?

Nobody needs to. An unsubscribe click adds the address with the reason Unsubscribed.

Does it work across our Entities?

A line belongs to one Entity, or to all when its Entity is empty. Unsubscribes are added in the Entity of the email they came from.

It catches not an address, a domain that takes no mail, a throwaway domain or a role address like info@. Bad ones are skipped by default, so your mailboxes do not collect bounces.
