Production reports: plan against actual, material against BOM, scrap by reason
Three ready reports for the production manager. What was planned and what was made, by item and month. The material planned and used on orders. What was scrapped, by reason. Each opens as a pivot you can turn, filter and export.
PLANSFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- The monthly review is a spreadsheet someone builds over two days from order registers.
- Orders are closed short and nobody adds up how much was planned but never made.
- More material is used than the BOM says, and it shows only in the stock count.
- Scrap is written off in one line a month, with no idea of why it happened.
How it works
- Run production as usual: orders confirmed and finished, components used, scrap recorded with its reason.
- Open Manufacturing > Reporting > Plan against Actual. Items run down, months across, with the quantity planned and the quantity made. Switch to a graph or a list.
- Open Reporting > Material against BOM. Components used on finished orders, by item and month, with the quantity planned and the quantity used.
- Open Reporting > Scrap by Reason. Scrapped quantities by reason and month.
- In any report, add filters and change rows and columns (by plant, order or item category, for example). Open a cell to see its orders, and download the pivot to a spreadsheet.
Everything it does
Plan against Actual
- Production orders that are not cancelled
- Rows: item; columns: start month; measures: quantity to produce and quantity produced
- Pivot, graph and list views
Material against BOM
- Component moves of production orders that are done
- Rows: component; columns: month; measures: Planned and Used
- Group by production order to see each order's use; pivot and list views
Scrap by Reason
- Scraps that are done
- Rows: scrap reason; columns: month; measure: quantity scrapped
- Pivot, list and form views
Other reports, on their own pages
- Recall List, Cost Variances and Work in Progress in the same Reporting menu
- Production Log and Operator Time on the Shop Floor menu, with rejects by reject reason
- The ready Shop Floor and Plant dashboards
Who uses it
Production ManagerReviews plan against actual, material use and scrap each month.
PlannerChecks orders made short and material used over the BOM.
SupervisorOpens the reports from Reporting to follow their own lines and items.
Where you use it
- Web: Manufacturing > Reporting > Plan against Actual, Material against BOM, Scrap by Reason
- Download any pivot to a spreadsheet
- Not in the SmartMy Manufacturing app; the app's Today shows orders open and late and what was made today
What you control
Settings
- No settings: the reports read your orders, moves and scraps
- Scrap reasons: Odoo's scrap reason tags on each scrap
Questions
Can I see the reports by plant?
Yes. Each report is a pivot: add the plant, or any other field of the order, as a row or column, and filter as you need.Do terminal rejects show in Scrap by Reason?
Their scrapped components are counted there, but under no reason: the terminal's reject reason is written on the scrap's source, not as a scrap reason. Rejects by reject reason are in the Production Log on the Shop Floor menu.Does Plan against Actual mark late orders?
Not in this report. It compares quantities planned and made. Late orders show in the planner's workbench, on the dashboards and on the app's Today screen. Is there a value of scrap?
Scrap by Reason shows quantities. The value of rejects is in the Work in Progress report and in each order's actual cost. Can we export these reports?
Yes. Download the pivot to a spreadsheet, or export the list view.Related features
PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTActual cost, variances and the cost sheetWhen a production order is done, its actual cost is worked out and set against the standard cost. It uses the material really used, the machine and labour time really spent and any job charges. The variances show per order and in a monthly report by item.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTRecall list: forward to customers, back to suppliersPick a lot or serial number and see, in one list, every lot made from it and every customer who received them. Or go backwards: every component lot and supplier that went into it. Export the list and call the right customers.SHOP FLOORWork in progress value and the cost of rejectsEach open production order shows what is tied up in it. That is components picked so far at cost, and machine and labour time booked at the machines' cost per hour. The WIP list adds them up for the month end, and each order shows the value lost in rejects and scrap.ACROSS SMARTMY MANUFACTURINGDashboardsManufacturing opens on ready dashboards for each role. The supervisor sees what is running and waiting for material, and the planner sees the order book. Job work, quality and maintenance each have their own. Every number is counted for the person looking, and a click opens the records behind it.SHOP FLOORThe shop floor terminal: a tablet at each machineA tablet at each machine or station shows its jobs in big tiles. Operators sign in with a PIN or badge, and start and pause jobs. They count good and rejected pieces with a reason, and stop the machine with a reason. Every count goes straight into the order.LINES AND SCHEDULINGOEE per machine and day, and the machine board on a TVOEE is worked out every hour for each machine and day from its running time and the pieces counted at the terminal. It is split into availability, performance and quality. A machine board on a TV shows every machine as working, stopped or idle.

Tell us what you make, how many machines and people you run, and how production is recorded today. We will set up a line with you and run a job on the terminal.
