Production order revisions, compared
Before you change a confirmed production order, save it as a revision with the reason. Each revision keeps the item, quantity, start date and every component with its planned cost, and compares with the order as it is now.
PLANSFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- A production order's quantity is changed after the customer called, and nobody remembers what it was.
- Components are swapped on a running order, and the planned material cost moves without a trace.
- The plant head asks why an order is bigger than the sales order, and there is no reason written anywhere.
- Two people argue about which version of an order the floor was working from.
How it works
- Open a confirmed or running production order and press New Revision.
- Write why you are revising it, such as Customer cut the order to 400, and press Revise. The order as it stands is saved as a read-only copy, and the order moves to the next revision number.
- Now change the order: the quantity, the start date or the components.
- The order's Revisions button lists every saved copy with who saved it, when, the status then, the reason and the planned cost.
- Open a revision and press Compare with Now. A table shows each component Added, Removed or Changed, with the quantity before and after and the change in planned cost.
- The reason and the new revision number are also written on the order's history.
Everything it does
What a revision keeps
- The item to make, its quantity and the start date
- Each component that is not cancelled, with its quantity, unit, date and planned cost at the item's cost
- The order's status then and its planned material cost
- Who saved it, when, and why
Rules
- Only a confirmed or running order is revised; a draft order is simply edited, and a done or cancelled one cannot be revised
- A reason is required
- Revisions are read-only; they cannot be edited
- The order's planned material cost is shown as its amount on each revision
Comparing
- Compare with Now: Added, Removed or Changed lines, quantity before and after, change in amount
- Shows No change in the lines when the components and quantities are the same
- The quantity to make is compared like a component; a changed start date is kept on the revision but not shown in the comparison
- Revision number printed as Rev 2, -R2 or /A2, set per Entity

Questions
Does every change make a revision by itself?
No. A Production Manager presses New Revision before changing the order. Changes made without it are in the order's history as usual, but no copy is saved. Can a revision be edited later?
No. A revision is a read-only copy of the order as it was, with who saved it and why.Can we revise a finished order?
No. Only confirmed and running orders are revised. A draft is simply edited.Does the comparison show the cost effect?
Yes. Each added, removed or changed component shows the change in planned cost, at the item's cost. Can supervisors revise orders?
Supervisors can open and compare revisions. Saving a new revision is for Production Managers.Related features
PRODUCTION AND JOB WORKBills of materials, production orders and work ordersKeep each item's bill of materials with its components and the steps on your machines. A production order reserves the material, lays out the work orders step by step and puts the finished goods into stock at cost.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTEngineering changes with approval, BOM versions from a date and where usedA change to an item's components, steps or drawing is raised as an engineering change order. It makes a new version of the bill of materials to edit and goes through approval. It takes over from the date you choose, with the old version kept.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTAlternate components and substitutesList the items that can stand in for a component of a bill of materials, with how many replace one and in what order. When a production order is short, one button uses the alternates in stock. The MRP run tells the planner when an alternate could save a purchase.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTRecall list: forward to customers, back to suppliersPick a lot or serial number and see, in one list, every lot made from it and every customer who received them. Or go backwards: every component lot and supplier that went into it. What was planned and what was made, by item and month. The material planned and used on orders. What was scrapped, by reason. Each opens as a pivot you can turn, filter and export.
