Questions and answers under lessons
Learners ask a question right under the lesson it is about, and the teacher or other learners answer there. The best answer is marked, and posts reported by three people are hidden until a teacher looks.
PLANSFrom Growth
Built and checked in code; not yet installed on a test system or used by a customer.
The problem it solves
- Doubts are asked in a class WhatsApp group, the answer scrolls away, and the same question comes back next week.
- Learners do not know where to ask about one lesson of a long course.
- One rude post spoils the discussion, and nobody is there to remove it.
How it works
- Discussions are on for every course to start with; switch them off on the course if you do not want them.
- Under each lesson, learners on the course ask a question. The course's author and editors are told by email and in the app.
- Teachers and other learners answer under the question. The asker is told when an answer comes.
- The asker or a teacher marks the best answer; others can like answers.
- Anyone can report a post. At three reports it is hidden; teachers hide or show posts with a reason in Learn > Manage Courses > Learning > Classes and Community > Discussions.
Everything it does
Asking and answering
- Under each lesson, for learners on the course (learning or finished) and its teachers
- Text up to 5,000 characters
- Answers sit under the question; one level, no answers to answers
- Like an answer (not your own); the number of likes and answers show
- Accepted Answer: chosen by the asker or a teacher
Keeping it clean
- Report: each person once per post; at 3 reports the post is hidden by itself
- Hide: teachers write why and hide a post
- Show Again: puts it back and clears the reports
- Teachers are the course's author, editors and Learn Managers
Who sees what
- Learners see shown posts of courses they are on, and their own posts
- Teachers of the course see every post, hidden or not
- Learn Managers see all of the entity
With points (where installed)
- Rights by points can require a number of points before someone may post or answer
Who uses it
LearnerAsks, answers, likes and reports.
Learn AuthorAnswers, accepts the best answer and hides or shows posts on their courses.
Learn ManagerModerates every course of the entity.
Where you use it
- Web: under each lesson in the player
- Web: Learn > Manage Courses > Learning > Classes and Community > Discussions
- The SmartMy Learn app: in the lesson page inside the app (built and in testing, not in the app stores yet)
What you control
Settings
- Discussions: on per course to start with
- Hidden at: 3 reports, fixed
Notifications
- New Question: to the course's author and editors, by email and in the app
- New Answer: to the person who asked, by email and in the app
- Every Learn event is a work message, so nobody can switch it off for themselves
Questions
Can we switch discussions off for a course?

Three reports hide it at once. A teacher can also hide it with a reason, or show it again. Are teachers told about new questions?

COURSES AND ENROLMENTCourses, sections and lessons from YouTube, Vimeo, PDF, slides, articles and filesBuild a course from sections and lessons: YouTube or Vimeo videos, PDFs, slides, articles, links and files to download. Authors build it, a Learn Manager publishes it, and learners follow it in order or in any order.TEACHING AND TRACKINGLive classes with a meeting link, attendance and recordingsSchedule a live class as a lesson with your Meet, Zoom or Teams link. Learners join from 15 minutes before, which marks them present, get a reminder an hour before, and find the recording on the lesson afterwards.APP, MESSAGES AND POLICIESMessages when a course is assigned, due soon, overdue or finishedLearners are told when a course is assigned to them, three days before it is due, when it is overdue and when they finish. With SmartMy HRMS the manager hears about overdue courses too.COURSES AND ENROLMENTThe course player with a moving watermark, no downloads, progress and resumeOne player for staff, students and outside learners. Videos resume where they stopped and documents show without a download button. A watermark with the learner's name moves over the lesson, so a recording shows who made it.
