Planning board: drag to move, click to book
See every car and machine by day on one board, with bookings, cars out, call-offs and blocks as coloured bars. Drag a reserved booking to another day or car, and click a free day to start a booking for that car.

The problem it solves
- The fleet calendar is a whiteboard that is wrong by lunchtime.
- Moving a booking to another car means cancelling it and typing it again.
- You cannot see at a glance which cars are free next weekend.
How it works
- Open Rental > Bookings > Planning Board. Each row is a car or machine, sorted by depot and class; each column is a day.
- Show 7, 14 or 31 days from a chosen day, and move with the arrows and Today. Filter by branch and class.
- Bars show Reserved, Out, Called off and Blocked times in their colours; a car still out past its end shows as overdue.
- Click a bar to open its order or block. Click a free day on a row to start an order for that car and day.
- Drag a reserved booking to another day or another car. It is checked free first and the rent is worked out again.
Everything it does
What it shows
- One row per item, by branch and class, with whether it is ready
- Rental lines Reserved, Out, Called Off and Returned, and blocks with their reason
- A car still out runs at least to the end of today, so an overdue booking reads as a bar
- Each bar labelled with the customer and the order number
- Times in your own time zone
Moving bookings
- Only reserved bookings move; cars out and blocks do not
- The booking keeps its length
- The new car and time are checked against other bookings, blocks and buffers; a clash is refused and named
- The rent is worked out again and the move noted on the order

Questions
Can we drag a car that is already out?
No. Only reserved bookings move. For a car out, use Swap or Extend on the order.Does moving a booking change the price?
Yes. The rent is worked out again for the new car and dates from the rate plan.Do blocks show on the board?
Yes. Maintenance, out of service, own use and holds for a customer show as bars, so nobody books over them.Related features
HIRE ORDERSHire orders from quote to returnEvery hire runs on one order. It starts as a quote and is confirmed with the cars reserved. It goes out through a handover check, comes back through a return check, and is closed once billed. Class bookings get a free car at confirmation, and clashes are refused with the booking named.HIRE ORDERSExtend, swap, call off, roll on and overdue hiresChange a hire while it runs: extend or shorten it, or swap the car through return and handover checks. Call it off with a call-off number, and nothing is charged after that time. Hires that roll on go on by themselves, and overdue cars are flagged every hour.FLEET AND DEPOTSVehicles and machines in classes, self-drive or with driverEvery car, van or machine is its own bookable item, grouped in classes your customers recognise. Each item says whether it goes out self-drive, with your driver or operator, or both, and what a driver needs to hire it.FLEET AND DEPOTSDepots, yard places and transfers with checksEach depot keeps its own yard: on hire, inspection, turnaround, out of service, in transit and own use. Cars move between those places by themselves as they go out, come back and are checked. You move cars between depots with a check at both ends.CUSTOMERSFleet dashboardTwo ready-made dashboards open first in SmartMy Rental. Dashboard shows what is out, what goes out next, what is called off and what is not ready. Fleet shows the yard: ready, on hire, in turnaround, out of service, and papers by type.
