Stock value by stage: raw, made, at job workers, on hold, rejected
See what your stock is worth as on any date, split by stage. The stages are raw material, made items, material at job workers, quality hold and rejects, and with Growth work in progress. Per plant, item by item, with each item's costing method.
PLANSEvery plan
The problem it solves
- The bank asks for a stock statement and you add up raw material and finished goods from two spreadsheets.
- Material at job workers is forgotten in the closing stock.
- Rejected and held goods are counted at full value with the good stock.
- You cannot get last month's figure once the month has moved on.
How it works
- Open Manufacturing > Reporting > Stock by Stage.
- Pick the As On date (today to start with) and a plant, or leave the plant empty for every plant. Press Show.
- The pivot opens grouped by stage, with plant across. Switch to the list to see each item's quantity, value, category and costing method.
- Each stage comes by itself. Quality, reject and scrap locations, and material at job workers, have their own stages. Anything else is Made Items when the item has a bill of materials, else Raw Material.
- With Growth, open production orders appear as Work in Progress, each at its value on that date.

- Mark a location's stage by hand in Inventory > Locations; empty means by the item (made here or bought)
- Work in progress: components picked so far and machine and labour time booked, per open order
The report
- As On any date; values from the stock ledger kept for every location
- Per plant or every plant; material at job workers shows with every plant
- Pivot by stage and plant; list per item with location, quantity, value, category and costing method (FIFO, average or standard)
- Each Entity on its own

Questions
Can I see the stock value for a past date?
Yes. Pick any As On date: the value comes from the stock ledger up to the end of that day. Work in progress counts the orders still open today, valued as on that date. How does it know what is raw material and what is made?
An item with a bill of materials is Made Items; anything else is Raw Material. Quality, reject and scrap locations, and stock at job workers, go to their own stage. You can mark any location's stage by hand.Is work in progress included in Starter?
No. Work in progress needs Growth. On Starter the report shows raw, made, at job workers, quality hold and rejects. Can I export it for the bank?
Yes. The list and pivot export to a spreadsheet, as any list does.Related features
SHOP FLOORWork in progress value and the cost of rejectsEach open production order shows what is tied up in it. That is components picked so far at cost, and machine and labour time booked at the machines' cost per hour. The WIP list adds them up for the month end, and each order shows the value lost in rejects and scrap.PRODUCTION AND JOB WORKJob work: challans out, goods back valued, process loss and billsSend your material to a job worker on a challan and it stays your stock, valued, at their place. What comes back is valued with the job charge. The loss is checked against what the process allows, and the job worker's bill is made from what came back.PRODUCTION AND JOB WORKPlants on every bill, and the plant summaryRun two or more plants under one GST number and still read each plant's own figures. Every invoice, bill and entry names its plant, and the Plant Summary shows each plant's stock, purchases, sales, margin, expenses and net for a period.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTQuality checks with sampling (AQL), held lots and non-conformanceCheck material as it comes in, each step on the floor, the finished product and goods going out. Each check has a sheet and a sample worked out from the lot. A failed check holds the lot, raises a non-conformance whose decision is approved, and a Rework decision makes the rework order.PRODUCTION AND JOB WORKBills of materials, production orders and work ordersKeep each item's bill of materials with its components and the steps on your machines. A production order reserves the material, lays out the work orders step by step and puts the finished goods into stock at cost.
