Roles for your team, and operators with a PIN or badge
Give each person in the office a role that shows them only their part of production. List your shop floor operators with a badge code and a PIN: they work on the tablet terminal without a login of their own.
PLANSEvery plan
The problem it solves
- Everyone sees everything, including costs and piece rates, because the software has one kind of user.
- Operators share one password, so you cannot tell who made which piece.
- Giving every worker on the floor a login is costly and hard to manage.
- Reject reasons are typed in free text, so they cannot be counted.
How it works
- In Settings > Users, give each office person one of the six production roles: Operator, Supervisor, Planner, Maintenance Technician, Production Manager or Manufacturing Administrator.
- Under Manufacturing > Configuration > Operators, add the people on the floor. Give each a name, badge code, a PIN of 4 to 6 digits, a photo and the machines they may work on.
- Check the Reject Reasons list (seven come ready) and add your own.
- If you make textile or garments, switch on Textile in Settings > Manufacturing to show the textile screens.
- With Growth, each tablet signs in once as a user with the Operator role; operators then sign in on it with their PIN or badge.
Everything it does
The roles
- Operator: the shop floor terminal only: own jobs, start, stop, good and rejected pieces
- Supervisor: jobs and machines, andon calls, rejects and rework, job work, operators (includes Operator)
- Planner: MRP runs, forecasts, master schedule, scheduling board, line plans, estimates (includes Supervisor)
- Maintenance Technician: maintenance requests and plans, tools and moulds, andon calls for maintenance
- Production Manager: everything above, costing and valuation, reports, approvals
- Manufacturing Administrator: settings, machines, lines, reasons, operators and their PINs, piece rates
- Quality Inspector and Quality Manager come with the Quality app (Growth); Store Keeper comes with store requests (Scale)
Operators
- Name, Badge / Code (printed on the badge, typed or scanned), PIN of 4 to 6 digits, photo, phone, notes
- Machines / Stations they may work on; empty means anywhere
- No two operators of an Entity share a PIN; a PIN that is not 4 to 6 digits is refused
- Only supervisors and above see or change PINs
- User: only when the operator also logs in, such as a supervisor working on the line
- Skills per machine with Growth: Trainee, Can Work, Expert or Can Train, with a Valid Until date
- Employee: with SmartMy HRMS, so piece earnings go on the payslip
Reject reasons
- Ready: Out of size, Surface / finish defect, Bad raw material, Machine fault, Setup piece, Handling damage, Other
- Each has a kind: Material, Process, Machine, Operator or Other
- A reason with no Entity is shared by every Entity
Industry switch
- Settings > Manufacturing > Textile: off to start with
- On, it shows the Textile menu and screens: yarn and fabric data, rolls, style orders, cutting and bundles, processing, looms

Questions
Does each operator need a login?
No. Operators are a list with a badge code and a PIN. They sign in at the tablet terminal; only the tablet itself signs in as a user with the Operator role. Can one tablet login be used on several tablets?
No. A login holds one place at a time; signing in on a second tablet signs the first one out. Give each tablet its own login with the Operator role. Can operators see costs or piece rates?
No. The Operator role opens only the terminal. Piece rates are kept by the administrator and earnings are seen by managers. Can a worker be stopped from using a machine they are not trained on?
Yes, by listing the machines they may work on: signing in on another machine is refused. Skills levels are recorded, but the terminal does not check them. Can we track two operators on one job?
Yes. Several operators can sign in at a station; each one's time on the job is kept, and each count records who made it.Related features

Each Entity keeps its own plants, orders, job work, settings and books. Your staff switch between the Entities they are allowed in, and the owner sees them together.
