As-built record of a lot
Print a record of exactly how a lot or serial number was made. It has the order and bill of materials, each component with its lot, and each step with its machine and time. It also has the operators, the rejects and the quality checks with their values.
PLANSScale only
The problem it solves
- An auto-parts buyer asks which steel lot went into a shipment, and the answer takes two days of digging.
- A customer complaint arrives and nobody knows which operator or machine worked on that serial number.
- Quality results are in one file, production records in another, and the component lots in a third.
- An audit asks for a birth certificate of a batch and you rebuild it by hand.
How it works
- Make items with lot or serial tracking; production orders record the lot made and the component lots used.
- Work runs as usual: steps on the terminal record operators and counts, and quality checks record their results.
- Open the lot or serial number and print As-built Record.
- Send the PDF to the customer or keep it with the batch file.
Everything it does
What the record shows
- Item, lot or serial, and the production order that made it with its finish date and quantity. The bill of materials (with its version under Scale's engineering changes)
- Components: each component with its lot or serial and the quantity used
- Steps: step, machine, start time, time taken in minutes and quantity made
- Operators: who worked each step, with good and rejected pieces
- Rejects: when, step, pieces, why and where they went (scrap or rework)
- Quality checks of the order and of the lot: the control point, when, by whom, result and each value
How it is made
- Printed as a PDF from the lot or serial number, on your Entity's letterhead
- Only finished production orders that made that lot are included
- A section with nothing recorded says so
What it does not do
- It goes one level down: for a component made in your own plant, print that component lot's own record
- It is a printout, not a screen you search; to find every customer who got a lot use the recall list
Who uses it
Quality ManagerPrints the record for a customer, an audit or a complaint.
Production ManagerUses it to see how a problem lot was made.
Sales or dispatchSends the record with a shipment when the buyer asks for it.
Where you use it
- Web: Inventory lots and serial numbers, Print > As-built Record
- Not in the SmartMy Manufacturing app
What you control
Settings
- Nothing to set; turn on lot or serial tracking on the items you need it for
Questions
Does it need lot or serial tracking?
Yes. The record is printed from a lot or serial number made by a finished production order.Does it show who did the work?
Yes, when the steps ran on the shop floor terminal: the operators of each step with their good and rejected pieces. Are quality results included?
Yes. Each check on the order or the lot, with its result, who did it and the measured values.Does it follow components made in-house down to their own components?
No. It shows one level. Print the record of that component's lot for the level below.Related features
PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTRecall list: forward to customers, back to suppliersPick a lot or serial number and see, in one list, every lot made from it and every customer who received them. Or go backwards: every component lot and supplier that went into it. Export the list and call the right customers.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTQuality checks with sampling (AQL), held lots and non-conformanceCheck material as it comes in, each step on the floor, the finished product and goods going out. Each check has a sheet and a sample worked out from the lot. A failed check holds the lot, raises a non-conformance whose decision is approved, and a Rework decision makes the rework order.SHOP FLOORThe shop floor terminal: a tablet at each machineA tablet at each machine or station shows its jobs in big tiles. Operators sign in with a PIN or badge, and start and pause jobs. They count good and rejected pieces with a reason, and stop the machine with a reason. Every count goes straight into the order.PLANNING, QUALITY AND COSTEngineering changes with approval, BOM versions from a date and where usedA change to an item's components, steps or drawing is raised as an engineering change order. It makes a new version of the bill of materials to edit and goes through approval. It takes over from the date you choose, with the old version kept.PRODUCTION AND JOB WORKBills of materials, production orders and work ordersKeep each item's bill of materials with its components and the steps on your machines. A production order reserves the material, lays out the work orders step by step and puts the finished goods into stock at cost.
