Open Badges 2.0
Every badge a learner earns gets its own Open Badges 2.0 link. They add it to a badge backpack or a profile, and anyone can check it came from you.

The problem it solves
- A badge that lives only inside your LMS means nothing to an employer or another institute.
- Learners screenshot badges, and nobody can tell a real one from a fake.
- You do not want learners' email addresses printed on a public page.
How it works
- A learner earns a badge as usual (points, courses or best answers).
- On My Learning in the player, Share my badges lists an Open Badges link for each badge.
- The learner adds the link to a badge backpack or a profile.
- The backpack reads the badge, the issuer (your Entity's name, website and email) and the award, hosted by your SmartMy Learn.
Everything it does
What is published
- The award: a link with a secret part, the date awarded and the badge
- The badge: name, description, picture and the issuer
- The issuer: the Entity's name, website and email
- The learner: only a salted hash of their email, never the email or name
Rules
- Open Badges 2.0, hosted verification
- A badge or issuer page answers only once at least one award exists
- Each award has its own secret; a link cannot be guessed from another
Which badges
- Every badge awarded by SmartMy Learn: the four ready ones (First Course, Keen Learner, Helper, 500 Points) and your own
- Badge rules: points reached, courses finished, a given course finished, best answers
- A badge without a picture uses the SmartMy Learn icon
Who uses it
LearnerCopies the link of a badge and adds it where they want.
Learn ManagerMakes the badges and fills in the Entity's website and email.
Where you use it
- Web: the player at /learn, My Learning, Share my badges
- Public pages: /learn/ob/assertion, /learn/ob/badge and /learn/ob/issuer, as JSON
- Not in the app yet: the app shows badges but not their share links
Questions
Does the badge page show the learner's name or email?
No. It holds a salted hash of the email, which a backpack can match with the learner's own address.Which version of Open Badges?
Open Badges 2.0 with hosted verification: the badge stays checkable while your SmartMy Learn is online. Can learners share from the app?
Not yet. The share links are on My Learning in the web player. Is a certificate an Open Badge too?
No. Certificates have their own QR check page. Open Badges links are made for badges only. What does a learner need to do to get the link?
Nothing. Each badge gets its link when it is awarded. The learner opens Share my badges on My Learning and copies it.Related features
