Profitability per project
One row per interior project: the value sold, revenue invoiced, and cost so far split into OPEX and CAPEX. Also what is committed, the margin and how much of the budget is used. Filters show the jobs losing money or over budget.

The problem it solves
- You learn a kitchen job lost money only after the accounts are closed.
- The value sold and the money invoiced drift apart after change orders.
- Nobody can compare margins across designers or project managers.
How it works
- Open Interiors > Projects > Reporting > Profitability. Running projects show to start with.
- Each row reads the project's budget ledger: revenue from posted payment milestone and design fee invoices, cost from purchase bills, subcontractor bills and expenses.
- Margin is revenue less cost, and Margin % is margin divided by revenue. Budget Used % is cost plus committed, divided by the budget.
- Filter Losing Money or Over Budget, group by project manager or client, or switch to the pivot and the bar chart.
- From a row, open the project, or open the ledger rows behind the figures.
Everything it does
Columns
- Value Sold: the Project Value, moved by approved estimates and agreed change orders
- Budget: the approved budget's total (hidden to start with)
- Revenue: posted customer invoices that carry the project
- Cost, OPEX Cost and CAPEX Cost, by each row's category
- Cost of Labour and Committed (hidden to start with)
- Margin, Margin % and Budget Used %; a row losing money shows red
Views and filters
- List with totals, pivot and a bar chart
- Filters: Running (on to start with), Losing Money, Over Budget
- Group by project manager, client, status or entity
What it does not count
- Invoices without the project; milestone and design fee invoices carry it by themselves
- Designer time, since Interiors has no timesheets; Cost of Labour stays at zero unless rows are added by hand
- Advances until they are settled

What you control
Settings
- Nothing to set on the report itself
- Budget categories decide what is OPEX and what is CAPEX
Questions
Why is a project's revenue zero?
Revenue counts only posted invoices with the project. Without Accounting, or before the first milestone invoice is posted, it stays at zero.Does it include the furniture we sell with a markup?
The cost side counts the purchase orders and bills of the project. The client side counts what is invoiced through payment milestones, including proposal deposits.Does it forecast the final margin?
No. It shows what is invoiced, spent and committed so far, against the budget and the value sold.Which plan has it?

PROJECTSBudgets by OPEX and CAPEXEach interior project gets a budget by cost category, approved before it counts. Purchase orders, subcontractor bills and expenses fill it by themselves, and payment milestone and design fee invoices count as revenue. The project manager is told at 80 % and again over 100 %.PROJECTSPayment plans that stop the job until paidGive each project a payment plan, such as the ready 10 / 50 / 35 / 5. Milestones fall due when a stage starts: the client is asked for 50 % as production begins. The job does not move on until that money is in. Payments Due shows what every client owes.DESIGNDesign fee agreements, retainers and hourly billsAgree the design fee as a flat sum, a share of the project value, a rate per area or room, or by the hour. Add a retainer and the stages it is billed at. Each bill, including extra concept rounds and hours, goes through approval and becomes a customer invoice.MEASURE AND MAKEPurchasingOrder the furniture, lights and fittings the client approved from their vendors in one step: one purchase order per vendor and project. The vendor confirms and gives ship dates and tracking on their own page, late deliveries are flagged, and nothing is received without an inspection photo.PROJECTSDashboards: Sales, Design, ProjectsThree ready dashboards open first in Interiors. Sales and Design are for the whole team, and Projects is for managers. Every number counts only what the viewer may open, and a click shows the records behind it.
