Counter sales
The counter: registers, cash, refunds, and items put on the job card
Sell parts, oils and accessories over the counter with registers, sessions, cash counts, refunds and invoices. When a customer waiting for their car buys something, put it on their job card so everything is paid once, on one invoice.
PlansFrom Growth
The problem it solves
- Counter sales go in a separate book and never meet the workshop's figures.
- A waiting customer buys wiper blades, and they are billed separately or forgotten.
- Cash in the drawer does not match at the end of the day, and nobody knows who sold what.
- Three people share one till under one login.
How it works
- 01
Set up a register for the branch with its payment methods, price list and receipt, under the counter's configuration.
- 02
Open a session from Garage > Counter > Registers. Sell, take the payment and give the receipt.
- 03
For a customer waiting for their car, use Add to Job Card on the web. In the staff app, use Counter items on the job card.
- 04
The items go on the job card as lines added by the customer, approved in person, at the counter's prices, discounts and taxes. The counter order is cancelled and linked, and the items are paid with the job card.
- 05
At the end of the shift, count the cash and close the session. Refunds need a supervisor.
Everything it does
Registers and sessions
- Registers with a code, payment methods, price list, default customer and receipt
- One open session per register; cash in, cash out and counted cash at closing
- Receipt numbers without gaps, per register
- Invoices when the customer asks, or always
- Refunds of a sale, approved by a supervisor
- Counter Sales report in the Garage reports: paid counter sales by day and register
Shared counter
- Several employees sell at one counter, each under their own name after a counter PIN of 4 to 8 digits
- Orders show Sold By next to the cashier
- Five wrong PINs lock that PIN for 5 minutes
Items on the job card
- Only on an open job card of a car in the shop
- Lines added by the customer, approved in person, at counter prices
- Counted as parts used on the job card (Growth parts and consumables)
- Scale: they leave the register's stock location with their lots; garage registers sell from the branch warehouse
Roles
- Service advisors are cashiers of the counter; workshop managers are its supervisors
- Cashier role for someone who only sells
- The counter comes with your Garage plan; it is not charged again as a separate register
Who uses it
Where you use it
- Web: Garage > Counter > Registers and Counter Sales; Add to Job Card on the counter order
- The SmartMy Garage app: Counter > Counter Sales (sell, orders, session) for cashiers, and Counter items on the job card. Counter items need signal. Built and in testing, not in the app stores yet.
- Not on the customer job page
What you control
Settings
- Per register: payment methods, price list, default customer, invoices (when asked or always)
- Shared Counter and its Employees: off
- Discount without approval: 10 %
Approvals
- Counter approval: refunds, receipt copies and discounts above the cashier's limit, decided at the counter by a supervisor in one step
FAQ
Questions, answered.
Do we pay for the counter separately?
No. The counter comes with Growth and above. It is not charged again as a register.
Can the customer pay for counter items with the repair?
Yes. Put them on the job card. They are billed and paid on the job card's invoice.
Does the counter reduce stock?
With Scale, yes: counter sales and parts on job cards come out of the branch's stock. On Growth there is no stock.
Can two staff sell at the same counter?
Yes. Make it a shared counter and give each employee a counter PIN. Each sale keeps who sold it.

Discounts and receipt copies approved by a managerFrom Growth
Decide what a cashier may do alone at the counter, and what needs a supervisor. Discounts above a limit, items on the house, refunds, receipt copies and cash moves can all need one. The supervisor approves on the cashier's screen with a password or a PIN, and every approval is kept.
Counter price lists, pay later on account, cash limits, shift report and receipt printerFrom Growth
More for the counter: customers on a price list get their prices, and trusted customers buy on account within a credit limit. Cash moves have limits, each shift has its X and Z report, and a network receipt printer opens the drawer.
Parts and consumables per job card by scan, with shop suppliesFrom Growth
Record what was really fitted on each vehicle: every part and consumable, how many, who took it, for which task and at what cost. Scan a barcode to issue or return, and bill parts through their approved estimate line. Add one shop supplies fee instead of billing rags and cleaner one by one.
Parts stock per branch and service van, with lots and serialsFrom Scale
Each branch keeps its own parts stock, and each service van carries its own. Issuing a part to a job card takes it out of the store or the van. A return puts it back at the same value. Counter sales leave the branch stock too. Lots and serial numbers are scanned, and vans are refilled to their rules.
Advances (deposits) on a job cardFrom Growth
Take money from the customer before the work, for example before ordering an expensive part. The advance is held against the job card and pays its invoices by itself when they are confirmed.
Card payment on a terminalFrom Growth
Charge a job card's invoice on your card machine from the staff app. The amount goes to the terminal and the customer taps or inserts the card. An approved payment is registered on the invoice by itself, even if the app was closed.
