Analytics and ad tags loaded only after cookie consent

Paste your Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Meta Pixel or Microsoft Clarity ID. They load only after the visitor agrees, with Google Consent Mode v2 set for you.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • An agency pasted tracking code into the site years ago, and it runs whether visitors agree or not.
  • Your cookie banner says "we respect your choice", but the ad pixel loaded before anyone pressed a button.
  • Google needs Consent Mode for ads in some countries, and nobody knows how to set it.
  • Verifying the site with Google Search Console means editing the page code.

How it works

  1. In the editor, open the Site tab > Tracking tools and paste the IDs you have. These are Google Analytics (G-...), Google Tag Manager (GTM-...), Meta Pixel ID or Microsoft Clarity ID.
  2. The cookie notice turns on by itself. Write your Notice text and the Privacy page link under Cookie notice.
  3. Publish. A visitor sees the notice with Choose, Only needed and Accept all.
  4. Nothing loads until they answer. Accept all loads every tool; Choose lets them allow Visitor statistics, Ads and social media, or neither.
  5. A link to #cookies anywhere on the site, such as in the footer, opens the choice again.

Everything it does

Tools you can add

  • Google Analytics 4 (G-...) and Google Tag Manager (GTM-...)
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel ID
  • Microsoft Clarity ID
  • Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster codes, as the content of their meta tag (no cookie needed)
  • IDs that do not look right are ignored, so a typing error cannot break the page

What loads after which answer

  • Visitor statistics: Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity
  • Ads and social media: the Meta Pixel
  • Google Tag Manager: after either one
  • Google Consent Mode v2 starts with everything denied and is updated with the visitor's answer
  • Tools load on the live site only, never in the editor or the test link previews

The cookie notice

  • Shown by itself when a tool is set; you can also show it with no tool
  • Your notice text, or a default one; a Read more link to your privacy page
  • Choose, Only needed and Accept all; Choose shows Visitor statistics and Ads and social media
  • The answer is kept in the visitor's browser and asked once; #cookies opens it again

Custom code

  • HTML or scripts in the page head and at the end of every page, for tools not listed
  • Only someone who may publish can change them
  • These are not held back by the cookie notice: they run as you write them

Who uses it

Website ManagerAdds the tool IDs and custom code, and publishes.
Marketing person or agencyReads the results in their own Google, Meta or Microsoft accounts.
VisitorChooses which kinds of tools may load.

Where you use it

  • Web: the editor, Site tab > Tracking tools, Cookie notice and Custom code
  • The published site: the cookie notice at the bottom of the page
  • You need your own accounts with Google, Meta or Microsoft; SmartMy does not open them for you
  • Not a log of consents on the server: each visitor's answer is kept only in their browser

What you control

Settings

  • Tracking tool IDs: empty
  • Show a cookie notice: off, and on by itself when a tool ID is set
  • Notice text: "We use cookies to make this site work and, if you agree, to see how it is used and to show you relevant ads."
  • Privacy page link: empty
  • Custom code in the head and at the end of every page: empty

Questions

Does SmartMy Website itself need a cookie notice?

Its visitor stats use no cookie. Some features keep a small cookie of their own, such as password pages, member sign-in and the currency switch. The notice is needed mainly for the tools you add.

Is Google Consent Mode v2 set up?

Yes. With Google Analytics or Tag Manager, everything starts as denied and is updated with the visitor's answer.

Can I add a tool that is not in the list?

Yes, in Custom code. Scripts there run as written and are not held back by the cookie notice. Add your own consent check if the tool needs one.

Can visitors change their mind?

Yes. Add a link to #cookies, for example in the footer, and it opens the choice again.

Can we see who agreed?

No. The answer stays in each visitor's browser; no list of consents is kept.
