Used car sales through quotations
When a car leaves the fleet, Sell This Car opens a sales quotation with the car and its serial number. Confirming it stops new bookings; delivering it takes the car out of the fleet and reminds you to take its fixed asset off the books.

The problem it solves
- A car is sold from the yard while the website still offers it for next weekend.
- The sale is typed into a separate invoice, and nobody can say which car of the fleet it was.
- The car has gone, but its fixed asset keeps depreciating in the books for months.
How it works
- Open the car under Rental > Vehicles > Items > Vehicles and press Sell This Car. Only Rent Managers see the button, the car needs its product, and a car on hire cannot be sold.
- A sales quotation opens for the car's Entity with one line: the car's product, quantity 1, and the car's name with its serial number. Add the buyer, the price and the taxes, and send it as any quotation.
- When the buyer agrees, press Confirm. The car is set to not ready, so it is no longer offered for new bookings. Its history notes the quotation it was sold on.
- Hand the car over through the quotation's delivery. When the delivery with the car's serial number is done, the car is archived out of the fleet and its history names the buyer.
- The quotation's salesperson gets a to-do: Dispose of the fixed asset of the car sold. Your accountant presses Dispose on the asset and chooses Sold, which takes it off the books with its gain or loss.
Everything it does
Selling from the fleet
- Sell This Car on the car, for Rent Managers; refused while the car is on hire or has no product
- The quotation line carries the car's product and serial number; the quotation shows Fleet Car Sold
- The car lists its Sale Quotations
- Confirm sets the car to not ready: it is not offered for new bookings, online or at the counter
- Delivery done with the car's serial: the car is archived; Profit per Car still shows archived cars for past periods
Selling to the person who rents it
- A lease buy-out or a rent-to-own purchase sells the car to the customer from the rental itself
- When that car is a running fixed asset, the asset is disposed of as a sale at once. Depreciation is posted to the day, the book value comes off, and the buyer's invoice uses the category's gain account
- Without a fixed asset, the buyer gets a plain invoice for the sale
What you still do by hand
- Bookings already made for the car stay on it: move them to another car before you confirm the sale
- A sale through a quotation does not dispose of the asset by itself; the to-do reminds you
- If a confirmed quotation is cancelled, set the car back to Ready yourself
- A car with no serial number is not archived by the delivery: archive it by hand
- There is no used-car valuation or price guide; you set the price

Questions
Can we sell a car that is out on hire?
No. Sell This Car is refused while the car is on hire. Bring it back first, or sell it to the hirer through rent to own or a lease buy-out.Does the fixed asset come off the books by itself?
Through a quotation, no: the salesperson gets a to-do and the accountant disposes of the asset. When the hirer buys the car through rent to own or a lease buy-out, a running asset is disposed of as a sale at once. What happens to bookings the car already has?
They stay on the car. Confirming the sale only stops new bookings, so move the existing ones to another car first.Which plan has it?
