Extras and insurance covers

Offer child seats, GPS, delivery, chauffeurs, fees and insurance covers with each rental. Price them per rental, per day or as a share of the rent, with a cap. Covers show the excess the customer still pays, and mandatory extras are added by themselves.
PLANSEvery plan

The problem it solves

  • A child seat is handed over and never charged.
  • Customers do not understand what the cover includes, and argue about the excess after an accident.
  • A daily GPS charge on a month-long hire comes to more than the GPS is worth.
  • Staff forget the airport fee every second booking.

How it works

  1. Make each extra under Rental > Configuration > Prices > Extras: Category (Insurance Cover, Equipment, Service, Fee, Other), Price Type and Price.
  2. For a cover, set the Customer Excess, the amount the customer still pays for damage with it.
  3. Choose the extras a rate plan offers on its Extras tab. Tick Mandatory on an extra that must always go with that plan.
  4. On an order's Extras tab add extras for the whole order or one line (For Line). The amount is worked out and can be changed. Mandatory extras of the plan are added when you confirm.
  5. Per-day extras are billed with the rent for the time out; the others are billed once.

Questions

Can we cap a daily extra?

Yes. Set At Most on the extra, for example seven days of the daily price. The per-day billing stops adding once the cap is reached.

How do customers see what a cover leaves them to pay?

Set Customer Excess on the cover. The booking page shows it next to the cover.

Can a fee be added to every rental of a plan?

Yes. Offer the extra on the plan and tick Mandatory. It is added when the order is confirmed.

Can an extra be for one car on a multi-car order?

Yes. Choose that line in For Line. Leave it empty for the whole order.
