Job cost and margin per job card
See what each job really cost and earned. Labour comes from the task timers at each employee's hourly cost, parts and supplies at their cost when issued, and revenue from the billable lines. Margin shows on the job card for workshop managers, with reports by job card, service, technician and branch.

The problem it solves
- The invoice total looks good, but nobody knows if the job made money after the mechanic's hours and the parts.
- Some services lose money every time, and you find out only at the year-end accounts.
- You cannot tell which technician's jobs earn the most for the hours they take.
How it works
- 01
Technicians start, pause and finish their tasks with the timers, on the web or the app. Each time entry takes the employee's hourly cost from HR, or the branch's Default Labour Cost.
- 02
Parts and consumables issued on the job card carry their cost when issued.
- 03
A workshop manager opens the job card's Cost and Margin tab. It shows labour cost, parts and supplies cost, job cost, revenue, margin and margin as a percentage.
- 04
Under Garage > Reports, Job Cost and Margin, Margin by Service and Margin by Technician show the same figures across job cards. You see them as a pivot or a chart.
Everything it does
On the job card
- Labour Cost: hours on the task timers at each employee's hourly cost
- Parts and Supplies Cost: the parts used at their cost when issued
- Revenue: approved, billable work and parts, before taxes
- Margin, and Margin (%)
- Shown on the Cost and Margin tab to workshop managers only
How the hourly cost is taken
- The employee's hourly cost in HR when the time was recorded
- Else the branch's Default Labour Cost per Hour
- Kept on each time entry: a later change of rate does not change past jobs
Reports
- Job Cost and Margin: by job card, kind of job, customer, vehicle, branch and date
- Margin by Service and Margin by Technician
- Parts Used: parts and supplies issued, billed or not
- Rework job cards are marked, so comebacks show their cost
Across branches
- With Enterprise, Head Office has a Job Cost and Margin report across branches. The branch scorecards add parts sold, parts cost, labour cost and job margin

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Where does the labour cost come from?
From the task timers. Each time entry takes the employee's hourly cost in HR, or the branch's default if none is set, and keeps it. Changing a rate later does not change jobs already done.
Who can see the margin?
Workshop managers, on the job card and in the reports. Technicians do not see cost or margin.
Do parts count at the price we bought them?
Parts count at their cost when issued. In Scale and Enterprise this is the stock value of the part; in Growth it is the cost on the product.
Can we see which services lose money?
Yes. Margin by Service lists revenue, labour cost, parts cost and margin for each service or part across your job cards, for any dates.

Tasks per mechanic with Start, Pause and Done timersEvery plan
Each approved service becomes a task for a technician, planned from its standard hours. Technicians press Start, Pause and Done on the web or their phone, one timer at a time. You see each person's tasks, the workload and the hours worked against the hours planned.
Parts and consumables per job card by scan, with shop suppliesFrom Growth
Record what was really fitted on each vehicle: every part and consumable, how many, who took it, for which task and at what cost. Scan a barcode to issue or return, and bill parts through their approved estimate line. Add one shop supplies fee instead of billing rags and cleaner one by one.
Workshop reports: inspections, appointments, no-shows and bay useFrom Growth
See which inspection items fail most, how many appointments turn up, and how busy each bay is against your open hours. Read them by day, week or month, as a pivot, chart or list.
Head office scorecards across branchesEnterprise only
Head office sees one scorecard per branch and month. It shows job cards, revenue split into labour and parts, average repair order, labour efficiency, comeback rate and approval rate. Compare branches for any dates with a group total, follow the trends, and give head office staff a role that only reads.
Parts stock per branch and service van, with lots and serialsFrom Scale
Each branch keeps its own parts stock, and each service van carries its own. Issuing a part to a job card takes it out of the store or the van. A return puts it back at the same value. Counter sales leave the branch stock too. Lots and serial numbers are scanned, and vans are refilled to their rules.
