Chain

Connections to your website and other systems

Connect your website, a fleet customer's portal or another tool to SmartMy Garage. Each connection has its own key, its branches and what it may do: read job cards, vehicles, customers and invoices, create appointments and enquiries. Job card events are sent to it as signed messages, with retries.

PlansEnterprise only

The problem it solves

  • A fleet customer wants to see its cars' job cards in its own portal and asks for spreadsheets every week.
  • Your website books visits in a form that someone retypes into the workshop system.
  • Another system needs to know when a car is ready or invoiced, and nobody tells it.

How it works

  1. 01

An administrator opens Garage > Configuration > General > Integrations and clicks New, and names it, for example "Fleet portal of a leasing company".

  2. 02

Choose the branches it may see, and tick what it may do.

  3. 03

Save, then make a new key. The key is shown once: copy it and give it to the other system's people safely.

  4. 04

On the Webhooks tab, add the other system's address and the events it wants. Send a Test checks it.

  5. 05

Each message is signed with a secret the receiver uses to check it came from you. New Secret changes it.

  6. 06

Garage > Configuration > General > Webhook Deliveries lists every message with the answer; Send Again repeats one.

Everything it does

What a connection may do

  • Read Job Cards and Read Vehicles: on to start with
  • Read Customers and Read Invoices: off to start with
  • Create Appointments and Create Enquiries: off to start with
  • Webhooks: on to start with
  • Only the branches you choose

Keys and limits

  • One key per connection, shown once; a new key stops the old one
  • Revoke Key stops the connection until it gets a new key
  • Key Expires: empty means it does not expire
  • Requests per Minute: 120 to start with (0 means no limit)
  • Last used, last address and the number of requests kept

Events sent

  • Job card created, stage changed, checked in, ready, delivered, cancelled, invoiced
  • Appointment created, enquiry created
  • Each message signed (HMAC-SHA256) with a delivery ID
  • Retried up to 8 times, from 1 minute up to 24 hours apart
  • Paused after 5 failed deliveries in a row; Resume when the other system works again

For the other system's people

  • A technical description is given by SmartMy support on request
  • Lists can be read page by page and since a given time

Who uses it

Garage AdministratorMakes connections, keys and webhooks, and follows deliveries.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Can our website create appointments directly?

Yes, if you tick Create Appointments on its connection. The appointment arrives in the branch it names, for an advisor to confirm.

How does the other system know a message is really from us?

Each message is signed with the webhook's secret, and carries a delivery ID. The receiver checks the signature.

What happens if the other system is down?

The message is sent again up to 8 times, from 1 minute up to 24 hours apart. After 5 failed deliveries in a row the webhook pauses until you click Resume.

Can a connection see all our branches?

Only the branches you choose on it, and only what you tick.
